Feel free to elaborate! (Meant factory ammo, not loads - sorry!)

I'm learning to reload .223 using 55gn FMJ, 19gn of H4198. I'm using a Lee Turret press, but I'm not sure if I should use a factory crimp die.

I grudgingly picked up some winchester 55 grain fmj factory stuff... $10 for 20 rounds... Ugh...

Cheers
Jay
P.S. I'm looking forward to receiving my T97 from CanAm!!!

I heard it is a 1-7 twist barrel. A friend of mine has a SL8 with the same twist and his gun shoots 55gr bullets very poorly. I think he got 4 inch groups at 100 yards. I have some 62gr soft points I am going to load up for this barrel.
The gun should be very accurate with heavier bullets.

You are correct, it is a 1-7 twist. I've got about 2.5 - 3 inch groups at 75 yards with my shorty and a 4MOA Ampoint. So I can't complain, but I think the heavier bullets would work much better. I've never had a chance to scope it to see what it can really do. In the Tavor Vs Type 97 thread in the black rifles section, Member 22shortimproved posted an almost unbelievable target that member Lector shot with a modified T97 and very good hand loads. I've never seen a semi auto rifle shoot anywhere close to that, check it out, it's impressive.

Edit: found 22shortimproved's post:
I had a Tavor and more than one 97 but I did not shoot them side by side.
But in my opinion they shoot different tho.

This was shot this with my Type 97 in a friendly competition a month ago.
My rifle: Benchrested, Zeiss scope.
Distance: 109 meters.
Each group is 10-shot. The squares in the grid of the paper are 1" x 1".
Shooter: Lector (not drunk). He used his own ammo.

Between group 6 and 7 he took a break.
He went to smoke his lungs, drink coffee and bully some of his friends on another range.
So it was enough time for the barrel to cool down before groups 7, 8 and 9.

For my own rifle, I've tried a bit of everything, including 5.56, but it mostly gets a steady diet of American Eagle 55g. STAY AWAY from the Remington UMC SH!T!!!! It has very weak crimps and myself and another member with a T97 have experienced problems with the bullet pushing into the case. I had no feeding issues or failures to fire with the UMC, but it grouped like crap. If you do a search in the ammo section you'll find a lot of guys with AR's have the same problem with UMC.

Use a factory crimp die, helps with the blowback in cycling the next round. When I started reloading .223 for my Norc AR, it was jamming here amd there(inconsistantly) and I immedialty bought the crimp die and hadn't had a problem since. Good luck!

So what was in the loads? And what was modified?
