I’ve used chains before and get really pissed off when the first shot flips the target over or they slide around on the rebar stand and get hung up on the vertical rebar. I’ve used some metal cable before too but found it gets frayed very easily with slash and those little loose metal ends poke all kinds of little holes in your fingers.
What are you guys using to hang steel targets?

never even thought of using baler belt, thanks for mentioning it!
dad mentioned that he just replaced some a few days ago on one of his balers. will be heading home to help with harvest in a few weeks, hope he kept some of it.
We replaced all of our target holders last week with belting. Idiots kept destroying the 2x4 holders. The belts kind of self heal when shot.
Just this week I hung a gong off 6" of chain from a Canadian tire cheapy sawhorse. Folding legs, blue. I bought mine at a yard sale for $2.00

I use 3/8'' steel cable. hung on a frame made from 3/4'' steel plumbing pipe. The frame can fold flat, damaged parts are easily replaced and the cable takes direct hits with minimal damage. While I haven't shot as much as I used to lately, I've sent literally thousands of rounds (22, 223, 260, 270, 30-06, 338 win mag, 338 lapua, 45/70) and still haven't managed to break a cable.

Old car seat belts from the wrecking yard. Basically free and takes lots of hits.
These are some hangers I slapped together a week or so ago. 2x4 scraps, so no cost. Front upright is 30", rear leg is 36". Plates are hung with 4-6 ply of looped rebar wire. They didn't tip over, solid even with the plates swinging.
They were a short term solution to us needing hangers, your mileage may vary. I have a paslode and a spool of wire in my truck at any given time so its pretty easy. But anything will work.....

I have been using those cheap metal sawhorse brackets that you screw onto 2x4's. I have the horizontal cross board loose, so you can just break it down to carry or throw in the back or the truck. My 18.5" square gong hangs from chain, been lucky so far with the chains not being hit. Would like to switch to seat belts or belting strips. That reminds me, I need to make a stand for my large IPSC plate.
