Very good info guys, much appreciated.

FYI China really does not have the capacity these days to create more complicated reproductions (garand, M1 carbine, etc) Their small arms industry is a shadow of it's former self with no US customers.

Maybe this should be split into it's own thread not to derail this one, just curious as to why there are no US customers for Chinese guns these days? Changing consumer tastes? Changing import laws?
 
I believe there are restrictive import laws for imported firearms. It's one instance where our laws are somewhat more relaxed. Have seen forum post from Americans jealous they can't get norinco stuff we get up here before.

Exactly it.

I think it was 93 they started the import ban.There's a story about Norinco trying to sell arms to gangs in California that was the real nail in the coffin,I think that was the start of the whole 922 compliance order for guns having to have a minimum number of US made parts to be compliant.

No idea the legitimacy of that but hey....it's China.
