What are you seeing for shotgun shell prices?

I'm seeing new stock coming into the LGS. I was also on line looking at Basspro and some other retailers. Prices seem to be all over the map with some of the best pricing coming from our local retailers (Eagle firearms for one). I'm not super excited about the cost of steel loads as I don't shoot that much, but target ammo is hard to find at reasonable prices especially if your going to shoot 10 flats a year. I bought up some old stock at old prices, but that's disappearing now and its time to face the reality of new stock prices.

In NE Sask this are some of the better pricing I've seen. Seems reasonable considering gas is 206.9/litre here today

12 ga 2 3/4" target loads. $13
12 ga 2 3/4" 1 1/16 oz steel $20
12 ga 3' 1 1/8 oz steel $26
12 ga 3 1/2" 1 1/4oz steel $27

20 ga Fed top gun Target loads $10.50
20 ga Hevi steel $25

I can only shoot slugs at my range, so pretty limited in terms of target slug prices...

Surprisingly Challenger 1oz slugs have gone up significantly around me - $26 - $29 per box of 25

Best deal I have seen for target slugs is through Tenda @ $199.99 for a case of 250 (10 x 25 count box) Score low recoil 1oz. slugs. Even the regular price of $21.99 a box is better than the Challenger prices. Kicking myself for not picking up more than a couple of cases last time - now they are sold out.

I cast and reload slugs, somewhere around $0.25/round

It is interesting you mention that because just last night when I was at my range I was talking with a couple of fellow range members about the exorbitant cost of ammo these days and since I have always picked up my brass/shells and take them home, I should really look more deeply into learning how to reload. Unfortunately I have ZERO experience and knowledge on reloading but your point about the cost per round is a very compelling reason for me to look into it. It's not like the ammo will go down in price any time soon, and the way things are going, selection and availability may be severely limited in due course.

How far are you pushing the slugs out to. I just got my Franchi Affinity 3, rail, and red dot. Going to sight in at 25Y tomorrow, then see what I can do at 50. Goal is to hit the gong at 100Y.

That is great news...but $0.25 will hardly cover the powder if you're lucky to find exactly what you want. Primer likely close to $0.14 ea. Lead pricing all over the map, and you may get it for the labour to clean it up.
Wads are about $0.15 if you go that route for slugs.

I like loading slugs, but at these reloading ingredient rates...if you find slugs for a buck or less...not much savings for reloading.

Though I prefer full power slugs vs the softies.

I am probably the wrong guy to ask about distance performance...I usually shoot my slugs from the 25m bench (because I am too lazy to walk any further but moreso because my eyes are terrible at my old age without any kind of optic).

I'm still at about $0.14 for powder, $0.04 for primer, $0.04 for wads (still see 500 for 19.99) and the rest for once fired AAs.

Lead, well, anyone that knows me knows I have never paid more than $0.32/lb. In fact last 250lbs were free.

As for softies, touch off 36 grains of HS-6 behind a one oz slug. You'll know...

Federal TrueBall slugs can do this out of the right gun/barrel. They are the most accurate "smoothbore" slug that I tested. Group at 100 meters:

Took Franchi Affinity 3 with bushnell trs25 out today with the score slugs. Sight in at 25Y, groups dead on on, 50Y was close. Took it to the 100Y gong with 10 slugs left. First try rang the gong, 9 left and I missed them all. Gong is 6" and the red dot completely covers it. I made sure to wear my trapshooting vest with recoil pad. 25 slugs and my shoulders feels great.

My favourite and I’m happy I bought lots of it when it was $5.99 a box. It’s a lifetime supply for the deer woods anyways.

Touching groups at 50 yards with just the bead out of my Model 31.
