What are you using for a front sight?

I picked up a 14" heavy barrel for my 870 express.

It came with no front sight (not even a bead) so it needs something to act as a reference point.

I am looking at maybe one of these

They are a "glue-on" and fit over a bead.

Or

Anybody use one of these? Or what do you suggest...?

wait, it came with no bead or even a hole tapped for a bead?
the first thing i would do is ensure that this is a factory 14" barrel.

id want to be absolutely sure that wasnt a barrel cut down to 14".
someone feel free to correct me if im wrong, but i have never heard of any factory short barrel available in Canada that came without any sights at all.

Bought it from a company in Ontario.

If you google North Eastern Arms you will see the pic in their 870 acessories.

and it did not come drilled/tapped for a bead? bizzarre.

i would talk to Casey at TacOrd and have him install a bead and possibly a set of Wilson Combat/Scattergun Tech ghost rings. his prices on them (last i looked) were very competitive and he has a great reputation here.
most add-on sight systems either snap or epoxy over a bead. i would not recommend the hi-viz snap-on fiber optic sights without a bead, since they will just rotate around on you without a bead to hold them indexed.

Yup; agreed. Had already ruled that out and filed it under "ain't gonna work"

I am leaning away from the ghost ring rear sight because I will be using the 26 inch barrel on occasion (or at least that is my plan so far.)

The more I think about it the more I am leaning towards drilling and tapping for this guy...

So, these barrels are not REM factory made?

What size are they chambered for? NEA doesn't mention this on their webstore.

Are they manufactured by Dlask for NEA?

Can someone post a photo of the roll marks on these barrels please.

For the OP, you're going to need a tall front sight on a 14" short barrel. Or at least a ramp for the bead to sit on. Or your POI will be too high.

Can you give me an idea what a "roll mark" is?

The barrel has no stamping of any kind as to manufacturer or anything else.

f:P: thats not good. roll marks are the stamps you see on the barrel that tell you about it. They should have the manufacturer, what its chambered for and the length of the barrel etc. without it an LEO could easily mistake it for a sawed off barrel even though you paid $300 for it.

Seriously, nothing at all? Not even bore size or chamber length?

I personally like rifle sights, whatever you decide, Casey at Tacord is your man.
