What are your favorite 358Norma Mag loads?

I've just gotten my grubby little paws on a very nice Husky in 358 Norma Mag, and now, I'm wondering about some of your favorite loads for this one.
A few test loads have already been made up, just to sight in and try her out. Proper 358 Norma dies were not available locally, so I made do with a set of Lee 350Rem Mag dies. Brass was made from new 338Win Mag, opened up with the nicely tapered expander in the Lee FL die, being careful to not move the shoulder back. The first firing should move the shoulder slightly forward, and I will use the dies to neck size only after.
So, what are your favorite loads??
 
Have tried most of the 2.5" family, not this one. Current favorite is the 338wm, trying to cut down on the reloader only rifles in the safe. I would think that powder would start in the R19,22, H4831 range. You are probably not pushing large projectile beyond say 2800, not sure if premium projectile is really needed for most applications.

Check out Tradex as they will almost certainly have the best selection of projectile and the dies.

I would think your best member sources here would be Doug, or Eagleye.

Surprisingly, Tradex has neither bullets nor brass for this one, even their loaded ammo is out of stock, though at $84/box, I think I'll stick with reloading.
My LGS has Hornady bullets, I picked up a box yesterday. I've got lots of suitable powder, from H/IMR 4350, IMR 4320, 4064, 3031 4895 etc. Like I said, brass is going to be reformed 338Win, or, in a pinch, 300 win mag, but lots of case trimming with the 300.
 
Just checked it out, just assumed they would have it. Guess its not european or rare enough.

I would bet a simple Hornady interlock wouod be poison. Premium projectile would be nosebleed expensive and rare to boot. Those powders sound about right.

Using brass with the wrong headstamp is something i really try and avoid. Sounds like you are going to be haunting the EE looking for components and dies.
 
The 250 grain Hornady Interlock works well with IMR 4350 and Reloder 19, as well as Norma 204.

I was loading 74.5 grains of IMR 4350 behind the 250 IL for 2820 fps

75 grains of Reloder 19 was slightly faster at 2860. N204 dialed in at 74.0 grains and 2810.

You should start at least 3 grains below these and work up carefully.

The 358 Norma Mag is a "Thumper", and has more muscle than is needed for most N.A. hunting.

But that is reassuring when in Grizzly Bear country. :) Regards, Dave.
 
I like 78 grains of RL19 behind a Barnes 225 TSX. I use full length. 300 Win Mag brass but my chamber was cut for them. Hope that helps.
 
I have owned sebveral 358 Normas ove the past fifty years. Every one shot well with 67.5 gr of IMR 4895, magnum primers, and 250 gr bullets.

Got my first one in 1969, a Husqvarna, and killed many tons of game with the 250 gr Speer spitzer at close to 2800 fps using that load.

Thanks Ted, and Slooshark1, I'll try out both of your loads. Have lots of IMR 4895, but no RL 19, so Teds is going to be tried first

I checked the Speer #10 manual and it is the same; 250 gr. Max with IMR 4895 is 63.0 gr. for 2584 fps.

Hornady #9 lists 66.4 gr. of H4895 as Max with 250's for 2800 fps...

Tom, you helped me out with some RL-19 awhile back... I am well supplied now and could easily spare some... shoot me a PM or see you at SD Friday night.

Of course you work up to that load, but in five 358 Norma Mags, three Husqvarnas and two customs, it was the most accurate load, and brass lasted forever.
