Hello CGN,

I'd like to tap into the huge pool of knowledge here on CGN and look for some ideas and opinions on what are good modifications, additions, or deletions to the SKS platform.

Admittedly I don't have much knowledge about them, but I've owned 3 or 4 of them over the past 10 years or so. I've tried the famous (or should I say infamous) tapco bolt on scope mount but that was a waste for me. I'm thinking about buying a peep site and looking for a quality fix for a proper length of pull while still having access to the cleaning kit (without having to use tools to get it).

Please don't let my thoughts on modifications limit this thread, what are your favorite mods?

Please, be gentle if this thread already exists. I'm surprised I haven't seen one yet. Leaves me wondering if there has one already been created.

Thanks for your input!

Here's what I have done to each of my SKS rifles:

1 - Cleaned the cosmoline and oil out of the barrel, action and stock (in the case of previously-enjoyed, I spend about three hours picking out the crud)
2 - Recorded the serial number, year and/or factory number
3 - Swabbed the barrels with a little CLP
4 - Put them in the crate with the others

Badass as phoque.

First I take the sks and then sell it and use the money towards a vz58 that seem to fix all my issues with the sks

putting the madwedge on so I can mount a scope good and solid is my fave mod, but thats only because I need the scope to see where the hell I'm aiming LOL.

Also love the tapco mags (haters gonna hate, whatever...), was not a fan of the stripper clips, but thats just me.

Well, I really like my ATI stock. Adjustable lop and pistol grips make me very happy. Next is the trigger job I did. My first attempt at any kind of gunsmithing and it went really well. Super smooth now. All it needs to compete the job is a trigger stop that doesn't look fugly..Still deciding on optics and associated mount.

magwedge rail hands down! unless you dont want to mount optics. Archangel stock and some tapco mags. the pro mag are nice but dont run as nice as the tapco's. if you run detachable mags then pick up an extended mag release while you are at it. then all that is left is to feed the beast crates and crates of surplus!

Remove the bayonet and lug, bed the stock with JB weld, trigger job. Then I drive out the firing pin retainer and give it a light polish and clean the tunnel out then polish the firing pin.

Agreed. Maybe I got monkey arms or something, but after adding the ATI, it finally felt like a real rifle. I suppose I could have added a recoil pad to extend the LOP, but I like the ATI stock.

buy the 3 rifle pack from tradex.....clean your laminated and birch stock sks s use the garbage chinese one to mod into something you want, keep the russian ones for good target shooting or whatever with non-corrosive, use your chinese one to bump fire or blast off thousands of rounds of corrosive garbage
