Turns out I probably have "leaky gut"... most of us do and don't know it. Comes from all the crap we eat in this modern age. I usually make my own jerky, but sometimes eat store bought shyte. I sometimes use a packed blend to make jerky, but that's full of crap too.

Looking for some good ol homemade recipes! Was actually my wife's idea to come on here and ask. She's a beaut.

Cheers!

^ that's a good launching point. Mine has more of each ingredient than that but I also eat 2lbs a week myself for the last 3 months.

I also do sweet and sour pork. Honey pepper beef. Smokey bbq. Siracha spice.

The quickest and dirtiest recipe is one stripe of sriracha per piece of meat. No marinading time.

Hands down the best recipe ever. Very smoky and peppery.

I can count in hours the time it takes for a batch of 4lbs of meat to dissapear from my house. Kids and grown ups alike love it.

That recipe looks really good, though I would skimp on the liquid smoke, to suit my taste more.

Hit up the local Sally Ann, st Vincent de Paul, or whatever names the local thrift stores operate under, and see what surfaces as far as dehydrators. Lots of folks thought they wanted them, found out it still took work to make good food, and went back to eating junk.

I have bought three dehydrators, all fully kitted out as they came from the store, for around $5 each, which is a savings of around $75 on just a box of extra drying racks.

Go for a troll through the last few pages of listings in the Recipes sub-forum at the top of the Hunting page too. Lots of good recipes there.

I usually go for some pepper flakes, soy sauce, or Teriyaki, some brown sugar, and whatever else is handy when I am mixing. It's pretty hard to make it so bad it's not gonna get eaten, unless you go stupid with the amount of salt.

I am using a mod of the above idea

from memory

3-3-1/2 lb meat sliced app 3/8 thick
curing salt
Molasses
tiny bit of Soy sauce (allergic to it)
a bit of brown sugar
1/4 cup whiskey or rum
marinade 24h or longer in zip lock bag (air removed)

on the smoker till done

I'll add to my post a little gem of information. Something that is rarely discussed on a jerky recipe webpage. Cutting!

Do you like your pieces more chewy or tender? It's all in how you cut the meat along the grain or cross-grain. It's all covered in the above site.

I usually add a bit of chili flakes (just a 1/2 tea spoon) to the recipe.

I just tried a batch of this recipe a couple days ago. Everyone who tried it loved it. I will definitely make it again, so simple!
