What are your thoughts on a 10.3in PS90?

I thought there was an issue with the primers that made reloading impractical

Couple things:

1. Thanks to bass pro in Vaughan ammo is the easiest thing to get. They carry the fnh branded rounds and the AE for a cheaper shoot. They always have it in stock, and if not, more is on the way. It is also the cheapest spot to get it. Used to be only $27 for 50 rds, now thanks to our dollar it is $32 for 50 rds. Still very tolerable.

2. On reloading... that is something else entirely. I have all the stuff to do it (powder is the hardest thing to get) but frankly I am more then a little scared to take it on. If you read about the cartridge you will learn that it is probably the hardest round to get right and the most prone to exploding with the smallest error factor. There are plenty of horror stories. The biggest problem is the the casing itself, it self destructs when you shoot it. When the bullet flies out it pulls the neck out a lot, and then when you go to resize it the round crunches in and distorts. I have also read that there is a lacquer on the FNH round which apparently is very important to how the gun feeds and ejects... though I am not sure how important it is as the AE brand doesn't have it and I have never had any issues shooting it. Bottom line the round should only be tackled by advanced loaders who have an eye for detail and very accurate equipment.

Interesting about your 10 inch barrel. I found the 16 inch one quite inaccurate as well. I just assumed the shorter the barrel the less accurate as is usually the case.

I run guns is bringing them in, in NR and R. They used to bring them in with the new version of the FN red dot optic as opposed to the ugly rail on the questar version. Not sure if they are still offering that or not. All I know is the optic was a $300 part if your were to buy it separate and irg was still selling it on the rifle for significantly less then questar with the rail. Not sure what the pricing is like now though.

Couldnt find the restricted short barrel on their site. I cant find it anywhere....Dont feel like waiting for a Questar pre order, I have something on order with them for months now and I wonder if I will ever get it or even a response to my Emails...

Im going to assume the restricted version was about $2k and the non about $400 more

Questar has 3 models listed 2 long barrel one short, short (restricted) is listed at $2399.99, the long (non restricted) is listed at the same price $2399.99, and then there is a US model long barrel listed at a little less $2199.99

That pricing sounds about right from what I can remember. Irg is like 1800 or something. That's what I got my 16 inch version for. I got Herron to do the NR work. I like the thought of a custom tuned barrel that fits within the OEM flash guard. Pretty well same overall length but in now NR.

Anyway, I think High desert dog is who questar gets their nr barrels from. You may want to check if they are the ones making the 10 inch too. I would also recommend herron arms to you, It will cost more, but Ian will produce a superior product that you will love.

We can get the 10.3" barrels from HDD but I would recommend buying from Herron. Also ammo availability is not a problem for us, we can do and bring it in all of the time. We have a few Non restricted models left in Canada and restricted on the US site.

Are you recommending to buy a regular 16 inches and have it converted to 10.3 by Herron?

I know that question was directed at irg but since I own two rifles blessed by Herron (and probably more to come) I definitely recommend them. Ian is top notch, when it comes to the tactical stuff you will not find anyone better IMO.

Your bigger battle will be getting all the juicy accessories you will want for the PS 90 that FN teases you with (like the brass catcher and receiver side rails). Fortunately, you can still get the brass collector from questar I think, but the rails are a whole other problem. You also need a nice sling which can be bought from urban ert.
