What are your thoughts on the NEA-15?

I'll let the OP come to his own conclusion after seeing the pics, but I wouldn't spend my or anybody's money on that.

I figured the OP might be interested in the opinion my employer had of the NEA that was submitted to them as that is what he was asking for. But the gun submitted had a misaligned top rail because of the poor engeneering of the rail attachement, and the sight were way off because of it. I didn't even mention the other problem the gun had. You guys want to disregard that because you are aboard the NEA happy train fine, bon voyage.

A drop of locktite on both screws on my NEA hand guard and they have not moved. My NEA bounces around in the back of the truck (unloaded) and gets treated pretty rough. Never loosens. Always shoots. Always accurate. Made in Canada! How cool is that!?
 
correct me if I am wrong, but at the $1000 price point, the fact that a quad rail is on, is already a pretty good feature, even if it may not be up to par with $3-500 dollar rails some people have PM'ed me about. People have PM'ed me that there are much better than NEA at the $1000 mark, but all of them have the high sights, and no rails or even something that can even attach rails. Since I am definitely looking for a fully railed rifle, like NEA's offering, at the $1000 pricepoint, am I not already ahead?

Also, isn't the whole point of the AR-15 is getting something that you can customize and upgrade later?

I also don't think it's fair to compare the fit and finish, or looks, or quality when people PM me about $2-3k rifles either.

Or am I just missing the whole point of the AR-15 platform?

Let say I have a $1000 dollars, am I better off the get the NEA-15 as is, or get a Norc and a handrail?
 
Tough call, I think the norc is picky about what type of fore end it can fit. But why bother when the NEA comes with a rock solid for end with rails already? That's why I went with NEA, plus it is canadian made....

It is a smoking deal, no question there.
But the OP said he'd like a railed forend so $600 for a norc plus 2-$300 for a quad rail puts him close to the NEA-15 price. And he'd still have to grind the front sight off of the Norc.
 
Bah, just get a lightly used Gen2 on the EE, under $800 and no tax. Or a dpms oracle, nicely built in the US.
Both nicer then Norinco.

for 699 you can get the norc with a quadrail. some norcs that are rentals have gone more than 10k rounds.
 
I can't believe I once again waded through all this crap.

What I still want to know to this day are two things..

1. Who made the barrel blanks, because my 18" shoots amazing. And yes, that includes monopoding off the mag at both Mons and Amiens at 500 with hand loaded hornady 75 BTHP.

2. How do I get a free technology upgrade to the newer forend? As great as the original 12" has been, I'd really like NEA to offer up a new one. I once heard they had a secret under the table lifetime hardware improvement/upgrade plan.

Anyway, to the original OP, these threads show up every other month, and the same five guys who don't/won't own one will rip on them, and in some cases, they DO highlight issues from the company's past that have been big no nos. on the other hand, every time one of these threads pop up more and more happier owners chime in. So, best advice? Try/handle one for yourself. A lot of people are happy with them. The only downside is lower resale value due to perception.
 
The rail on the norc isn't secure - it wobbles. So it's only for accessories. I removed mine because I wanted to try this free-floating thing out.

The CQ is one norc worth buying, though. It's a bit ugly, and it wobbles a bit, eats anything, but if you feed it what it really likes it's dandy (goes for every gun out there).

I don't have much of my original CQ left - it fell victim to farkle madness, sadly, but I still run the upper, BCG and barrel and I'll keep it until it wears out.

I'd recommend accepting it as it is and not spending a pile of money modding it - that's what I'd do if I could go back a year and kick my own butt. Save the cash for more guns.
 
I'm building a NEA AR now and can't wait till it's finished, love the blunt look it gives off....not super fancy, just waiting for SFRC to get some parts in stock to finish her up. The rear pin is very tight that's the only small issue I had.

I've unloaded containers from China loaded with goods labelled "Made in Canada" way back when. Probably used the marketing/packaging costs loopholes where with the magic of numbers, they have proven that packaging and marketing the goods in Canada cost more than getting the goods from China. That's how frozen meats of animals that don't even grow here sometimes get labelled as Canadian-made too. With that being said, from what I know, NEA has an actual production facility in Ontario, so the rest of my post is just commentary.
