For those of you running velcro side saddles, what do you like and dislike about them? is it quick to pull out rounds? How about reloading them if they are mounted on your gun? Are they "reliable"? There are a few options on the market..which ones are better or worse? etc,. etc.

thanks!

I run velcros in 3 gun. Started with Mesa but moved to Velcro and never looked back. The ease of changing out the saddle is the major advantage. They are as reliable as any hard side saddle I have used. I like everything about them and dislike nothing.

You certainly save on weight, obviously. S&J's for example, are professionally built, solid, well priced and simple. I've used the molded side saddles in the past, like MESA, and while they are a top notch product in terms of build quality, my confidence in their long term ability to still hold the shells firm wasn't there. And I have read more than one complaint from reputable sources of that exact problem happening. The price point was/is a factor as well.

I find the shells pull out as quickly as you want them to. The elastic holds them firm. I really can't think of much I don't like about this kind of setup.

My only concern with the "soft" side saddles is the reaction the adhesive has when in contact with the various solvents / lubes used on the gun. A lot of them will eventually loose their stickiness and when you try to remove the side saddle, off comes the part of the Velcro that is supposed to be stuck to the firearm.

I have anice active thread here about velcro cards, as I was considering them myself.
But I'm leaning away from the idea now as I have numerous shell holders on my vest.

Good point and something to watch out for but I imagine it's something that can be avoided.

Yeah I guess it depends if you want a chest rig solely for shotguns or multi application. I wanted molle modular capability so my vest could change with my shooting and caliber preference each outing. I'm really stoked about my vest and can't wait to start using it.

Maybe we should get a vest/rig thread going? I don't see much mention of them here. I never really considered them until recently, so maybe others will start looking into them if there's some discussion and user custom setup photos to look at?

I used Velcro (S&J) and they kept falling off on me after 10 or so rounds.

I've never had this happen to me. Do you mean the side saddle would not stick to the velcro on the receiver?

I've used the SJ ones without issue but I prefer the 7 rnd Esstac Shotgun Card from SKD. I find its a little more rigid.

The whole 6shot side saddle with all the rounds in it kept falling off the receiver Velcro from the recoil. I suspect it was something to do with the way the blackhawk spec ops II stock kicked it's recoil?

Do you mean the shells kept falling out of the loops or the whole unit fell off the receiver?

I'm a bit slow. Just to clarify; the velcro strip that you stick to the receiver (loop velcro) stayed on the gun, but the part that actually holds the rounds (hook velcro) fell off/separated from that strip?

If so, did you buy it used? Sounds like the hook and loop was really worn out and just doesn't stick together.

The Velcro attached the the shotgun reciever did not come undone. The side saddle Velcro would not stay attached to Velcro on the reciever. It's would "rip off" from the recoil.Brand new product.

Wow. That shouldn't happen. What brand was it? I can't imagine how the recoil could've been the culprit.
