What barrel options exist for a Rem 870?

I have an 870 Express Super Mag with a 28" barrel. I like it for the duck blind, but when I'm in the bush chasing rabbits, I'd like a shorter option. I'd like it to accept my Rem chokes and be a decent length, perhaps 20-22 inches, but I'm open to other options. Anyone know of where I might find one? Obviously, I can wait to get it as the season end is fast approaching, but it'll find use in the off season at the range too. Thanks.

The common ones out there with rem choke will be 18 1/2 and 26 inch. There are the odd 23 inch off turkey guns and even some 21 inch but I have not seen a 21 with choke tubes. May be others also but they are the ones I have run into
A WTB add on the EE will be your best spot. I get any I need for 12 ga there usually with no problem. Good Luck

You can use any 870 barrel on the Super Magnum reciever but you must never shoot shotshells that are longer than what is specified on the barrel you are using.

Okay, every firearms owners manual I have for 3 1/2" guns says do not use 3" barrels on 3 1/2" receivers.

It may be a safety thing I suppose, kinda like idiot proofing it.

I would say. I have not put a regular one on my super mag but have went the other way and put my super mag barrel on a 2 3/4 receiver just for the choke tube option but only fire 2 3/4 out of it. It fit fine

Remington #24545 is a 20" barrel with rifle sights threaded for choke tubes. I have one on my 870:

Forgot about that one, can the sites be removed or I guess one could get used to them being there for rabbit hunting. I know I could not but I am weird anyway and need the little ball on the end. ;);)

I have a few barrels for my supermag. One is cut down from a 28inch vent rib. It is threaded for chokes and can pattern very tight for such a short barrel.
I also have a slug barrel that is chambered for 2 3/4 and 3inch. It has performed flawlessly. I use a 28inch fixed mod choke 2 3/4 sometimes. The danger here is you could make a big mess if you slip the wrong ammo into it. There is a much increased chance of injury in running anything othr than a 3 1/2 chambered barrel on the supermag reciever. It can be done, but a touch of human error and you will be posting an ad on the EE or a new hand.

I believe that is the case...and it could very well explain why most if not all new 870 barrels are chambered for the 3.5" shotshell regardless of the reciever they leave the factory on. The chance that someone might swap barrel and forget or someone else use the gun and assume it is a 3.5" was a liability Remington no longer wanted to deal with! With +/- 8 million shorter chambered barrels out there, and just as many idiots, there's still a pretty good chance that someone will blow up an 870!

I like the look of that 20" barrel. It's right along the lines of what I want. Anyone know where to find one?

The sight bases appear to be soldered on, so removal would not be easy.

As to where to find one like it, I got mine at Wholesale Sports. You could also try Western Gun Parts.
