What barrel to replace Tikka T3 lite 3006?

I've really enjoyed the accuracy of my T3 in 3006 but it is wanting when I go to the range with the lite barrel on it.
While the end result is that I want to hunt with it, I don't mind carrying around another couple of pounds with the heavier barrel and the extra time I get while not waiting for the barrel to cool down will let me enjoy it a little more.

Do you guys have any suggestions for a good heavy or even fluted stainless barrel to replace it with? I'm all ears.
*side note - I've heard various stuff about progressive twist barrels for 3006 from a guy who makes them in Alberta.

Yes - I know they're available in 308 in varmint but just am not as interested.

You could pick any barrel you'd like as long as the cal you want it to be works with your action. If you want to stick with the 3006 it isn't a problem just get a blank in the size and twist you want and have a gunsmith spin it up for you. I personally like benchmarks. But that's me

I haven't shot either of there barrels but I'm sure either one of them could make you a blank and then just a matter of getting it to your smith of choice and getting it chambered and installed

It could if you wanted a fancy fluted one and depending on who chambers it. For the most part a barrel will run you about $500 for a basic blank and every gunsmith I know has a different rate for chambering.

So if you're around 7-800$, and you can get a nice T3 varmint for around 1000$ (or less, if you're lucky), in a short action zippy caliber like a 6.5 or even .243, wouldn't that be better than pissing around swapping barrels??

I suppose you have to factor in glass, but you could take the glass off the -06 for 10.5 months per year that you're at the range.....

I know a guy that has a nice Boyd's stock for sale that'd fit a T3 Varmint......

Tikka importers can't get it in 3006 and its just the caliber that I want, so while that would be my obvious solution for 0.308, it isn't what I'd like. That said, its about the same cost as getting a non-top of the line barrel made custom and installed on a T3 3006 lite.

Pardon my ignorance, but what would a separate barrel cost a guy vs. and entirely different T3 varmint??

Your better off getting a custom barrel bud, even if you got a factory one you would still need to have it head spaced and installed
