Hi!

I'm a Swedish hunter trying to get my hands on an m14 type rifle to use it for hunting and plinking, you might remember me from such threads as http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=393890&page=3 or the classic http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=382247

Now it seems as if there is a Swedish company that has gotten its hands on a bunch of m305/m14s. I've visited them and fingered the weapon. I'm trying to get an idea of what I can expect from it.

What batch m14s/m305 has a fake flash hider and a rather rough finish on the receiver?

( The store I checked out sells these m14s not because of legalities but because the guns they bought simply had these flash hiders on them)

If I decide to go for it I'm propably getting a new trigger and a scope mount for it as well, what kind of (bench and optimal conditions) accuracy do you think I can expect?

Thank you!

New trigger ? Just smoooothe out the existing trigger. Save your money. :D

If you are looking for a tack driver stick with the SAKO and TIKKA boomsticks so close to you already. Even a Savage, Remmy or Winchester if you are bent on scoping it.

Most of the M14 lovers here can / will obtain 1.5" to 1.25" groups with handloaded ammo. I've been able to shrink those groups down below an inch with careful benchrest techniques, match bullets (Sierra, Hornady, Nosler, Lapua, Speer). This is using a factory barrel! A few armorers I just taught/delivered an M14 clinic to showed me groups around the 1/2" mark from their tweaked M14 rifles. These fellas know what they are doing! Match ammo and indoor range! :)

Rough finish on the receiver? All the Norc M14s I've seen have a smooth (for a military style rifle) finish on them, well smooth enough for the girls I go out with. ;)

Most of the M14's (Norc and Poly) up until 2009 had the flash suppressors with bayonet lugs ABSENT. Then we found some 2009 Norinco M14's with bayonet lugs on their FS's... Way cool, but very rough finish! Still , this attempt at a bayonet lug looks a lot better than the neutered version.

Hope this helps,

Barney

If I can get 2" @ 100m consistently I'm happy. Plenty for our smaller roe deer out to 150m if I can find support for the gun/use a bipod or shooting fork stick and plenty for moose/ red deer at the ranges I shoot them at.

I believe that the rifles with the dummy flash suppressors ( with shallow flutes where the slots should be) are quite dated, I seem to remember seeing them here almost immediately after sales to the US were banned by Clinton. That's 1990 or so.

I put a Smith flash suppressor on my m305 and it's a beaut. It took some work to get the old one off because it was spot welded on, but for 75 bucks U.S. and help from Milarm I just can't beat it.

My M-14 shoots sub 1" groups at 100 yds with cheap SA surplus and a bipod. Of course, Hungry did lay hands on it and bless it. So... that helped of course.

Aha! From what I've heard the chinese have gotten better at building rifles since then; how bad were they in ~1990?
