I use Energizer AA, whichever model is cheapest.
The last batch went 6 months, 1174 pictures (all of the frikin wind). I brought the camera home and rotated the batteries to "the drawer", where they get used for remotes, game controllers, flashlights, etc, until they expire.
I'll keep using them.

Can't vouch for the 20 year storage part, but otherwise I think Russ is right-on !
Where did you find them?
If your camera has the little jack to run a remote (larger) battery, go that route.
I just swapped out the battery on one of my cameras that has been out since last May (2014). The new cameras don't eat batteries like the older ones did, but the cost still adds up. I run 12 amp hour 12 volt batteries (sourced from a local battery supplier - sometimes for sale at Princess auto), for about 20 bucks a crack. I recharge them with a trickle charger and they tend last at least 8 to 10 months before recharge (save the one that lasted 16 months before I even decided to recharge - it was still powering the camera).
A couple of the camera companies sell a "pack" (battery, case, cord) but they are expensive. I got my batteries for about 25 bucks (tax in), put them in a tupperware container and got a jack from the source for a couple more bucks. After 1 season they paid for themselves.

my cam takes six C batteries and i have found the PC president choice ones work
excellent even through the -30c here is sask.

I use the same. 30 months of pictures(20,000 pics) and work at -25c
I agree with Russ, energizer lithium’s are great batteries, especially on cold winter days.
Note that some devices recommend that lithium batteries not be used, like my Garmin 60CSx GPS.
The manual says: lithium batteries are not recommended because the initial voltage of new batteries may exceed 1.5 volts each, which may cause the GPSMAP 60CSx to turn off.

Energizer Lithium. Best batteries I have found. They are expensive but worth the price.
