on a more serious note, that tells you that the guy was afraid of the rifle and didn;t handle it too good either.
I'd hate to guide a clown like that.

A shotgun is all his uncle/daddy has ever taught him to use,and that's all he knows.
All the movies he ever watches starred heroes that got away with (multiple) rifle wounds, while no-one but the macho used shotguns and nobody (the bad guys) lived to tell the story.

A "bore" defense thread might be good. Course that would amount to a way to defend against a bear defense thread, and we'd be right back to square one. :D
 
Speaking of camping, I was up at Hyder, Alaska last year, they have a stream, I think called Fish creek, where the Grizzlies gather to munch on the salmon. The State Parks built an elevated platform for bear viewing. Across the 15m waterway is a campsite!!! While I was there I filmed a Grizz digging up garbage at one of the campsites. I remarked to my friends; Someone is going to get killed at this site. Wasn’t till later reading one of Sheldon’s books that I found out that someone had been killed in their tent at this site by a bear. Truly Stunningly stupid!!!

Speaking of shotguns, which bayonet fits my Mossberg 590?

I was thinking that an RPG 7 would be OK for black bears, but I wouldn’t want to take on a Grizzly with anything less than a RPG 29, I think the tandem warhead is the only sure bet!
