I have a Reimgton 700 SPS tactical .308 20" barrel with Bushnell 4200 6-24x40 scope and am planning to get into longer range shooting.

I was wondering what bipod I should get. I would like one that attaches to the sling mount but still allows me to attach a sling. I would use the bipod for range as well as possible field use (hunting.)

The Harris bipods seem to be highly recommended. I was wondering what model would be best and also where would be a good place to buy one (Vancouver, online or EE) and what would be a fair price.

Any advise would be appreciated.

I have both a Harris and a Rock Mount- both swivel, both 6-9", I'd take the Harris over the Rock Mount anyday as the Harris has notches that hold position, with springloaded release. After a few shots the friction lock of the Rock Mount tend to come loose and it slides down if I don't reef on the friction screw. Hope that helps, no idea on other brands, but I'd get another Harris without blinking an eye.

It boils down to personal preferences, but the Harris is the defacto standard for bipods. Availible just about everywhere, reasonably priced, good following and support, and they get the job done. Lotta military and civilian side shooters use to great effect. Harris is my preference since I have yet to break one and I can just run into a sporting goods store and pick it up.

Versapod is the other one I can think of off the top of my head. I like the design but the availability is more limited which is more why I went with a harris.

I sold my Harris's and bought a couple of Versapods, much better IMO. They have knobs to lock the cant and pan, great mounting system.

I as well run a Harris. I have the pod claws and the rubber feet, as well as a podlock. The model with the tilt feature is the only way to go. They seem to be built very well, easy to use and mount. The price isn't out of this world either. Also very easy to find as mentioned above.

Atlas, nothine else comes even close. I just ordered mine and a rail to mount to my rem700. I had a chance to use one at the range a while back and it is amazing.

I had to count the one's attached to rifles . . . there are six. Somehow I think there is another one "Out there somewhere". The lock notches are better but I have never owned a swivel model. Have used the Harris for almost 30 years, and always have one attached to my hunting rifle.

Both the atlas and harris are fine. When loading either, they both work as they should. Same basic features, different take on them though.

You can get upgrades as well for your harris to lock it down better. I have a 6-9 HBRM with upgraded tilt lock and feet.

I have Harris, Versa and Parker Hale.
I use Harris.
To mount a Versa or Parker Hale, a spigot can be installed projecting directly from the front of the forend. This avoids that great lump of a block on the bottom of the forend. The Harris mounts dierectly to a QC sling stud, which makes mounting very easy. Saves having to install a rail or other adapter.
Avoid the non-swivel Harrises.

We sell both the Harris and the Rock Mount. The Rock Mount will work fine for light use or light calibers but for about 30% more you can have the original Harris that is the standard for most real snipers and hard use sportsman in the western world. Since the Harris patent ran out they have been knocked off in China (probably from one plant) and sold under various names including Rock Mount and Caldwells. Phil.
