Sylvestre is waiting on barrels to build complete rifles from build kits. They will be $2500 when available. Pricey, but with the charging slot dust cover down and the bolt forward they are as well sealed as a BRN-180, and there's no piston to break. I forgot to ask what kind of barrel they will use, but even with a heavier barrel it will likely be less front heavy then a piston 180.

Sylvestre is building what?

Details on the Jard J180 can be found at the thread J180 Build and Feedback thread, https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/2160771-Jard-Sylvestre-J180-Info-Feedback-and-Builds. In a quick summary, Sylvestre worked with Jard 2.5 years to get the NR FRT entry, and have since brought in build kits that combine a traditional 180 recoil harvesting system with an AR-15 style gas tube impinged pseudo piston bolt carrier group and bolt. People have bought the build kits and rehomed AR-15 and prohibited AR-15ish rifle fore-ends and other furniture. Sylvestre will be building complete rifles in a similar manner, hopefully using components worthy of the $2500 price. I will call back tomorrow if I time to get details on the components. The build kits do come with a fairly nice Jard trigger out of the box, definitely an upgrade over the mil-spec triggers of the competition.

The locally built 5.56 J180 rifles will be using non-restricted length MRA barrels and handguards, with a Magpul butt stock, and will come with the charging handle slot cover. Less expensive Jard-built rifles are an unknown number of months away.

MRA barrels and handguards are good quality, plus it means part of the rifle is now made in Canada. This plus having a unit sealed as much as a BRN-180 in DI with no piston to break in a non-bullpup form factor that does not involve the R18s controversial sponsor may make the price worthwhile to some. Only time well tell.
