I've shot wolves with many different cartridges from 22-250 to 300 mag. probably my favorites are the 25/06 and 257 weatherby. I usually load ballistic tips for wolves and coyotes and carry a rifle all winter in my truck. They usually shoot right through the ribs of wolves and don't do any major damage. The one exception was when I shot a female and her yearling pup. I flattened her on the spot and he took off on the dead run. I shot him running in the head by accident. It looked like he was hit by a meteor! I sell wolf hides every winter with bullet holes ( entrance and exit ). I can't say that it's made a difference in the price I get.
