What caliber should I get?

If we could have mags over ten rounds, I would get a 9mm double stack Para Ordnance. Since we can't have mags over ten rounds, you should get the .45 ... best thing about a single stack .45 1911 in my opinion is that its capacity is not really restricted by legislation, since 7 or 8 round mags are standard. And you get plenty of "oomph" out of those 8 rounds!

If I was looking for something more exotic, I would consider 10mm or maybe 400 Corbon.

Not to mention you can get 10 round mags for your 1911 .45ACP now... Sure they stick out a bit but with the right bumpers they don't actually look too bad. 'Course flush fit 8 rounders look nicer... ;)

Can get 10 flush in this baby, all steel monster (its on ee) But the grips need to be changed for a real cool look and feel. Accuracy is amazing . Not for small hands  :D

The CZ 75B seems like a great gun, but it's not really a 1911. If the question had been "what .45 should I get?" then maybe. I think he's asking about a traditional 1911 style.

I vote for .45ACP as the classic round for the 1911, unless you intend to use the gun for IPSC, in which case .40 is more practical. If you don't shoot it a lot, then commercial ammo is not going to be dealbreaker even though it is relatively expensive, and if you shoot it a lot, .45 is a very good cartridge to reload and the brass lasts a long time since it's a low pressure round. The .45 is a lot of fun to shoot.
