Need something neat; picked up a gorgeous sako but have zero use for a 338 win. Any ideas? The more bizarre or neat the better. If all else fails I'll probably just go 264 WM

338-375 ruger/campfire/demon. I'm looking to do that same to a remington SS I'm playing with... If you like the idea, I'll split in for the reamer and gauges... Fits in the standard long action with mag bolt face just fine.

the question would be what is the main purpose of the gun? hunting , long range , or all of the above? if it were me would look in to a 338 Edge there may be other 338 bores faster but in my opinion best bang for buck out to the 1800 plus yard line.

30-338 or 7mm mashburn, I'm not sure if the action is long enough for the mashburn with longer bullets. Someone else might chime in.

So i am assuming you are rebarreling. The 338 wm barrel would sell well in the EE's, somewhat offset the cost of the new barrel. I am thinking of something in the 2.5"magnum family and the same barrel contour to simplify gunsmithing. The most popular would be 7mm rem mag. Course you already hit on the 264wm, then there is the 7rem mag, 308 nm/30-338, 338wm, 358nm, 416 taylor, and 458 wm.

Sticking in family should mean no messing around with magazine feed, or feed rails. Basically if you go with the same barrel contour, it is chamber a barrel, spin it on, check headspace, and go shooting.

What Sako is it? I'm with DLL just rechamber to 340 Wby, you will be impressed with the killing machine it will become.........can't say enough good about the 340 Wby but like you have nothing good to say about the 338 WM and I have owned and hunted with 3 different ones. But the 340 is a whole different world................
