What caliber would you exclusively use to hunt each of the following big game?

Exclusively? Caliber or cartridge? I don't think I would have a cartridge exclusive to a particular creature. 45-70 and 375 ruger works for all on that list in pretty much any condition you can make a clean shot.

I already got a goat and mule deer with a rifle chambered in 303 british and next year I plan to take it after sheep and caribou, I was going to use it for black bear this week but my buddy cancelled today due to being sick.

So I'd guess I'd use it for everything legal. The bison I'd use something else probably 375hh or my 500 Jeffery.

While my 30-06 would cover the works, I am not limited to one rifle, so here are my choices

White Tail / Mule Deer? 6mm Rem, 257 Bob, 6.5x55

Caribou? 257 Bob, 6.5x55, 270 Win, 7x57

Black Bear? 6.5x55, 270, 7x57, 303 Brit [1910 Ross] 8x57, 30-06

Brown Bear? 308 Norma Mag, 325 WSM, 8mm Rem Mag

Elk? 30-06, 308 Norma Mag, 8x57, 325 WSM, 8mm Rem Mag

Moose? 7x57, 30-06, 8x57, 308 Norma Mag

Bison? 8mm Rem Mag

Mountain Goat? 7x57, 270 Win, 30-06

Dall Sheep / Stone Sheep 270 win

When I went on my Bison Hunt several years ago, I took a 338 Win Mag. No longer own a 338 though. EE

You're one of the few people on here that has hunted bison. How did it go? How did the 338WM perform?

225 or 250 grain?

What would your preferred caliber to hunt each of the following large game be?

White Tail / Mule Deer?

East - 358 Win (Whities)
West - 264 Win Mag

284 Winchester

Black Bear?

Baited - 9.3x57
Spot and Stalk - 7mm Rem Mag

Brown Bear?

338 Winchester

300 Weatherby

300 Winchester

45-70

Mountain Goat?

284 Winchester

Dall Sheep / Stone Sheep?

28 Nosler

I tried to go with choices that I don't have in my safe currently but how do you not use a 45-70 on bison? I mean, I didn't, but it seems like the right choice.

Because it shot so well in my A-Bolt, I chose the 225 Partition. The shot was approaching 350 yards, but I had a clear
broadside shot. One shot & done. I was actually pleased with the performance.

Additionally, that rifle/load was used to take a second Bison at 220 yards. [Had a young hunter who could not get his
rifle to function.] This was also 1 shot and done. Anatomically, Bison are a bit more challenging as to bullet placement.
Lower 1/3 of the chest is best. EE.

White Tail / Mule Deer? 2506

Caribou? 2506

Black Bear? 4570

Brown Bear? 458wm

Elk? 458wm

Moose? 9.3x62

Bison? 458wm

Mountain Goat? 2506

Dall Sheep / Stone Sheep? 2506

With my last round of knee injury I doubt I'll ever get to hunt any mountain game unless I can be flown to the shooting grounds but I'm confident in what the 2506 can do. I love my 458wm. It hasn't ever let me down. The 4570 is just a great round for Ontario black bears.

My original plan was for the 257 the 358 and the 458 diameters to hunt any and all but have strolled off the path of practicality

For Brown Bear and Bison my 9.3 x 62 would be perfect; for everything else, my 6.3 x 55 would be my first choice.

I've done most of list with a 7mm STW, and pretty much the rest with 300 Mags. Some with both. Most of the time it wouldn't have made any difference between the two, decently sized bullets of in many cases the same weights and a whopping 24 thousands of an inch difference in diameter, pushed at similar velocities with the same powders just aren't going to be worlds apart at normal ranges.

Bullet choice matters more.

I have a type:

White Tail / Mule Deer?
.257 Weatherby Mag

Caribou?
.257 Weatherby Mag

Black Bear?
.50-cal muzzleloader or 125gr broadhead

Brown Bear?
.300 Weatherby Mag

Elk?
.300 Weatherby Mag

Moose?
.300 Weatherby Mag

Bison?
.300 Weatherby Mag

Mountain Goat?
.257 Weatherby Mag

Dall Sheep / Stone Sheep?
.257 Weatherby Mag

OK I'll play, choosing from the rifles / cartridges in my possession at the moment:

White Tail / Mule Deer? .25-06 Sako AV

Caribou? 7x64 Sako 85 Bavarian

Black Bear? .308 Sauer 202 Stutzen Lux

Brown Bear? .375 H&H Sako Kodiak

Elk? .35 Whelen Sako AV Classic

Moose? 9.3x62 Verney-Carron Impact Plus

Bison? .375 H&H Winchester M70 Alaskan

Mountain Goat? .30R Blaser Krieghoff Hubertus

Dall Sheep / Stone Sheep? .270 Win Sauer 202 Outback

In reality I've successfully hunted most of them with a .308. Boring, but it works!

Now that is a list of calibers. I've always wanted a 257 weatherby.
