I had a Savage 6.5-284 and it was a tack driver. Shot about to 3/4 MOA with the factory barrel and very little load development. Very gentle recoil. Only got rid of it because the barrel was longer than I liked and I was already loading for more cartridges than I could keep up to.

I have been looking at 7-06AI or something similar for a long range caliber the whole family can shoot, but I will probably just rebarel the old swede 6.5x55 for gongs up to 1000 yards

A 308 pushing a 155 Scenar @ 2900 fps is a top rig for 1000 metres... JP.

I have a 280 a.i. shooting 168gr bergers at 2920fps 27" benchmark barrel . I have shot this set up out to 1400 yards. Just a fun gun to shoot

If you could pull away from the 7mm? The 6 DASHER or 6BR would be the way to go, none of the larger calibers are as good, simply NO RECOIL in the small cases.
