What caliber?

Martinbns I know every one is entitled to there opinions, but as far as I'm concerned the 270 is superior to both the 7mm-08 and the 260 based on ballistics.
Everything being equal the 270 with a 140gr bullet has over 200ft pounds, 200ft per sec and 2.5" less drop at 400yds, Plus there is more factory ammo right over the counter for the 270. Heck if the ammos not a big concern I'd go with the 270 WSM which smokes them all.

OK, how about the 280 rem. Just as a compromise between the 30-06 and the inferior 270. Now don't get me wrong, the 270 has it's place, like maybe on the wall of a ### bar. (that ought ta do it)

LOL! A ### bar? Only if it was painted in pink camo  . We are digreesing from the discussion as usual...

almost the same the 270 and the 30-06 recoil? CRIPES!

I had a savage in 270 and I couldnt feel any recoil at all. My tikka in 30-06 I can sure feel though!

Actual recoil is easy to measure, it's simple physics. Felt recoil is another thing entirely. Gun weight, & stock design can make the same amount of recoil feel differently for the same cartridge. Powder load & bullet weight make up the majority of recoil. Calibre is not as significant, IMHO of course.

I own rifles in .270 & 6.5mm calibre's & the recoil is quite similar shooting the same weight bullets. The deer fall just as fast with the .270 or the 6.5mm.

.270 is great, My old man has used one for years, taken many deer and moose. Other hand I have a .243 that I plan on using this next hunting season for my deer... Ok truth be told the .243 is my wifes, It has gotten her into hunting and will work great when my son Starts to hunt. Guess what I'm saying is.... Either will drop a deer. .270 will be more forgiving with questionable shots but the .243 is more forgiving for those concerned with recoil.

Now i don't hand load yet and know nothing about it but can't a person just underload the 300 win mag to a powder of a .308???

Yes they can.

In Alberta, we have one word for them: Sissy.

All you realy need is:
1) A good blackpower rifle
2) A 300 Win Mag
3) Reloading gear

With the reloading gear, you can custom make whatever load for whatever game you want to shoot.

You don't NEED 20 different rifles, one rifle, the 300 WinMag does it all. It'll fire heavy magnum loads when you need it, and light sissy loads to make them groundhogs do a backflip.

Now with all that money you save not buying a slew of rifles, you can go and buy yourself some handguns, pistols, revolvers, bow & arrows, slingshots, beer, cheap women, natcho's... wow, it's like Christmas all year long.

we hunt (my boys & I ) with 7x57,280,&308 mostly.Any cal.larger than 243 will have the same effect at 200 yd. A deer will not know the differents.SO buy what U want,if u dont like it sell & replace.:D

I'm always looking for excuses to buy new gear, but the rifle I shoot deer with is still my Grandfathers 1917 .303 Lee-Enfield . I free floated the barrel, the action is smooth, 2-7 Leupould scope and it's short and light enough for heavy bush. The best thing is if you get attacked by a bear you don't need to shoot it, you can just club it with the skull crusher plate that is the buttplate. If I was going to buy a fancy new rifle, it would be .308. Fast enough, flat enough and lots of ammo and reloading opportunities.
