hey all, i'm looking at buying a new camo rain jacket... was wondering what you guys thought of the sitka downpour goretex jacket... the camo on the jacket is kind of blue, seems a bit strange to me. I'll be hunting on the west coast mostly, deer, bear and duck.... any suggestions?

I don't have any experience with Sitka Gear but I do own a lot of Cabelas clothing in Outfitter Camo, including a MT050 Gore-Tex rain jacket in said camo.....love the camo as it pretty much blends in anywhere and the rain jacket is awesome.

yep +1 BUM..
just make sure the jackets a good one well constructed an suited for what is needed.

camo is a marketing factor although i do prefer to be 100% camo-ed out in various patterns , i have had alot of success with a brown flanno (flannelette) sp? shirt an tracky pants... more so how u hunt an move rather than the brand of camo u have.

Sitka does seem very good gear alas

Kuiu. The Chugach raingear is awesome. Light, breathable, tough and great to hike. Seeing as you're on the rock I know the conditions you're going to be in. It has never let me down.

I own both the Sitka Downpour and the Cabelas MT50 sets of rain gear and both have proven themselves very well so far. The Sitka Is very light weight and the material is pretty touch although I have managed to poke a old dry stick through the pants. Don't think you could go wrong with either.

ww w.huntingbc.ca has plenty of reviews on Sitka and other gear. Take a look there, since it covers your area.

I've heard great things from anyone I know who has shelled out for Sitka gear. My favourite camo pattern is the one that is on sale in my size - anything beyond that is just a fashion statement/marketing, IMO.

I only buy camo clothing because it goes on sale, not so with regular outdoor sports clothing. Most of my hunting is done in regular muted colors, jeans and a shirt, whatever I happen to be wearing, however, my wife shot her biggest buck white tail while wearing brown yoga pants, a light pink toque, and a fluorescent pink fleece hoody. Remember, the camo is for us, not the animals' benefit. Many provinces require blaze orange for hunting, hardly mossy oak camo pattern.

Much of the camo worn by hunters simply looks like a solid blob at any distance anyway. I wear it... Sometimes, and other times I don't bother. As for rainwear, I agree with those that go for quality gear over the camp pattern. My hunting rain gear is just a dull solid sage green. No camo required.

I certainly see no harm in getting good gear In a camo pattern that strikes a persons fancy though.

i own a bright yellow arc teryx jacket... i just feel like the bright yellow might not be so good...

Excepting certain specific kinds of hunting like waterfowling, turkeys, etc., your bright yellow jacket is probably going to be fine. In fact, being visible to other hunters is often a good thing.

I think im wearing that jacket in my avitar ... i think its by far over all the best hiking/hunting ware ive ever owned ! Is a little loud on clear days, but i bought it specifically for torrential " downpour " days ... so it dosnt matter.

I will add that i was not sold on the digital cammo i just thought it was a bunch of BS. I bought the gear for its light weight, over all comfort and its ability to keep me dry. however when hunting with buddy in the timber in close quarters he has mentioned that at 50 ft i just dissapear in that pattern. he said its unreal.

I did shoot a BC book Blacktail on Van Island wearing this gear this year ... Food for thought : )

If you think you want that gear and you have the money for it .. buy it ! definate go on that gear... Its does fit small. Im 6'3 and needed a XXL, XL was too small for sure. Cant even feel the pants when you walk its so light.
