What can an can't be painted?

Hey I wa wondering what can and can't be painted? Can everything you see on the m14 be painted barrel muzzle brake receiver top of bolt. The parts you see without touching?

I want to paint it black this great colour kinda sucks.

Paint on the barrel and gas system probably won't last, even the factory paint that comes on the CZ 858 bubbles off if you shoot it fast enough. You could try heat resistant paint but unfortunately you'll probably have to go with a firearm specific epoxy or something. I've had great luck with "gunkote" , my M14 has been black for 7 years and over 1000 rounds. It worked for me.
 
I don't remember what retailer I actually got it from but they did ship to Canada. There are also gun shops around that offer it. I had a shotgun coated in Thunder Bay.
 
duracoat, cerakote, gunkote, Water dipped imaging, all works good.

you just need time to prep it, which it is very boring...
