What can I bring home from the US?

Hey,

I'm in the states for Christmas and will be heading to a Bass Pro shops during my stay. I tried looking but its all way to confusing to get a good answer so I figured I'd ask here.

I was wondering what all can I legally buy and bring home to Canada. I know I can't get anything (At least this is what I think) that "attaches" to a gun, but I was wondering what can I bring home in regards to reloading equipment, specifically Dies and bullets, and maybe case holders or trimmers.

Anything to help clarify would be great guys!

It is most unfortunate but the good old days of stocking up while south of the border are long gone. And the penalties are definitely not worth even thinking about trying it.

Who said it was OK? If you mean Canada Customs then they will tell you 8lbs of powder is OK and 5000 rds of ammuntion as long as its not a commercial shipment; just for your private use. However, I recommend you ask the USA side before you take possession of any ammo or ammunition components in the USA.

Canadian Customs may not care about you bringing bullets into Canada, but Homeland Security, will look at it very differently, if they catch you at one of the checkstops on the USA side of the border. Exporting bullets,powder,primers, brass etc out of the USA without the required permits, is a federal offense under USA law. If you are caught, they can seize the goods, and you can be barred from entering the USA in the future.
 
the key is export not import. I asked the Canadian border guy last time thru to find out their take and he said as long as I had a lic to fill my boots so to speak. get caught on US soil with it and apparently you end up in guantonamo bay.........that's what he told me, I might have been making up the guantonamo thing and I am pretty sure im not even spelling it right:) I mentioned looking at 7mm bullets in the summer on here and gave the impression I bought them and the internet police on this site not only cavity searched every cavity I have but Im pretty sure they are watching my house:rolleyes:

now interestingly enough I crossed on a ferry first part of dec and cleared US customs and asked the US border guard and he said and I quote
"off the record, Im so !$#@*# (6 letters) tired of this *!@# I could care less....a white Canadian guy bringing back a box of '06 ammo isn't my enemy" I actually laughed out loud and thanked him and was on my way. great crossing at a sleepy lil very nice town. now right or wrong that's what he said, would I risk it ....def not cause I cross to the US too much. I have never seen a check point even at the Detroit Windsor crossing but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
Personally I just buy my stuff from a store in BC with great customer service that rhymes with Pachecko :)

You took a chance of violating US export laws. Now you are trying to confuse new people on this site with half truths that can get them into trouble with US authorities. Why is it necessary for you to flout your bravado of Violating US export rules on this site?

Does anyone here know of anyone that has been caught by homeland security? I don't, and I know guys that cross into the USA more than 2 times a year and buy what ever they want and bring it home. Speeding is against the law too but many of us do it. FS
 
Just looking for what I can bring back guys, Lets take it easy.

I appreciate the helpful comments, not going to bring anything back that I'm not legally allowed to.

FYI I'm almost sure you can't bring weed back no matter how good of a deal you find as long as we are talking what you can and can't bring back from the good ole US of A :popCorn:

Three years ago,when we still had the Gun Registry, I purchased a muzzleloader in the US, brought back the registration number and got it registered and then was legally able to to bring it back across the border on my next trip.
At that time they did not consider a muzzleloader a firearm.
Not sure what that situation is like today,so would recommend that you check before you buy.
