What can you shoot with a 223?

There's no such thing as using too much gun when it comes to harvesting big game, within reason lol. I wouldn't shoot anything bigger than a yote with my 223. I'm a strong believer in one shot kills. Ok well, my first deer took 2 slugs from my 870 but that was only because I was young and got excited lmao! That and I couldn't bare to face my dad and the rest of the camp knowing that my first deer got away lol.

If that rifle is

  • Accurate
  • Able to use good quality hunting bullets like TSX or Partition
  • Unrestricted

Then I don't see why I wouldn't hutn with it. Be a fun, compact coyote gun. If it's not accurate, then it's not suitable, of course.

I don't know what the controversy is. It "looks scary?" Sound like a bunch of Zumbos...

Many hunters use military rifles to hunt with..What is the big deal?

........... Personal preference.

Maybe you can get on in 375Ruger. It would prolley feed reeeelly good w/o that prehistoric belt they put on the older magnums. :D

A little bird told me that Ruger is coming out wiht a semi using the 375 Ruger. I htink it woudl be a perfect "woods gun":)

Are you naturally this uninformed, or does one take classes?

No, Duh! Everyone knows the 5.56 Nato is designed to wound not kill. The military prefers to wound enemy soldiers than killing them. See! The new figure 12.a1 currently in print cleary marks the no shoot tazer only zone.

Still not following your logic.....

Thats a TASER target. You shoot at the legs with this non lethal weapon so that any applied current doesn't cross over the heart causing cardiac arrest.

I have yet to receive any directive to intentionally wound by aiming for any point that center mass. Where you aim, and where the bullets strike is another thing entirely.

Wanna rethink this?

LOL, I thought you were being sarcastic, are you serious about this?
Get real! Who would train the shooter of a very accurate round like the .223/5.56 not to aim for the head or chest cavity? Why? A wounded enemy is still capable of shooting back, blowing stuff up, warning others etc. If that's military tactics then why are there so many dead Al-Queda and Taliban out there with one .224" sized hole in their heads?!?

Sarcasm? What could you mean? Forces in the middle east have regrettable learned that they must shoot to kill the enemy, for the Taliban are known for their, dedicated want and ability to quickly and effectively treat their own wounded.

If you don't watch it, I'll post a pic of world famous alaskan grizzly, taken of course with a 223 or the vid. of guy trying to shoot himself in the with a ricochette from a 50 cal rifle, (with a 223 subcalibre insert)

A .50 caliber richochette video? Man that's got to be fresh, lets see it.

I also hope one day of seeing a lion charge caught on video where the cat gets so close to the shooter that it looks like he may get bitten. That would be cool for sure. If only there were these videos to see......

Well... I thought about that one, but that wasn't the 223, but instead the spanking new cartridge the 17 remington fireball (anyone heard of it?) and besides. secretly off camera a skinny Russian chick in tight black shorts was fending the lion off with buck shot and I didn't want to start a new bear defense thread.

Next thing you're going to say the Canadian Military only uses harsh language to fight enemies! LOL

Bison... I'm honestly struggling to understand that last post you made. I understand what all the words you used mean on their own, just not the way you chose to put them together. Sorry man, no offense, I just don't get your point.

.223 is for zombies.

Sorry, I could not resist.

Okay, back to the question. Back in the early '80's, we could hunt Columbia BlackTail Deer on Hongcouver Island. I bought an AR15 (SP1) for $ 600 from Lever Arms and they were unrestricted (1984) at that time.

I've left the Wet Coast for McSquinty Land Ontario and I'm not current on my BC Hunting Regs.

If you really want to hear about the .223's ability to take down game, let's ask Otokiak (spelling?), or Tiriaq, or Gushulak, or any of our NWT/Nunavut located CGNutters. They have many surprises for us "southeners". I have exchanged .223 hunting stories with theirs. Interpret that as; My groundhog killing exploits versus their taking of larger game. Yes, with a .223.

I won't say any more !! FLAME suit ON ! :nest:

Sorry . . . I was having fun being sarcastic.:slap: Some topic's, "facts", video's seem to pop up every week. Over and over and over . . .

Ah ok, I get it now.

Ya those guys up there in Nunavut really surprised me with the game they're hunting with .223 no question.
