what choke for 00 and 000 buckshot

Try different chokes with each type of buckshot.Each gun is an entity unto it's own.See what yours likes best.Generally an open choke,i.e. improved cylinder works best.Having said that I just picked up a new to me 870 that shoots federal 2.75" OO buck best with a modified choke. Cheers Bac4

try the modified and see how it patterns at the range youll be using it.
dont just rush out and buy an IC choke and expect it to perform better. patterning with a shotgun is everything.
buy some rolls of brown packing paper at the dollar store and go pattern the gun.
shotguns are finicky beasts, and add to this the fact that chokes are not all the same and have a pretty wide variance despite what they are labeled. your best bet would be to take it out and pattern it first with the chokes you have, then take a caliper and measure the exact choke constrictions you have and write them down. then consider buying aftermarket chokes in the exact constriction you need. remember with a choke the actual muzzle diameter of the choke is irrelevant, its the constriction that is important - and to find this you need to take two measurements: subtract the muzzle diameter from the bore diameter. bore diameters vary.

Interesting thread. We use to always do deer drives and used buckshot.
We all had fixed full choke 28-30 inch barrels. Using Premier Buckshot it was awesome at taking down deer out.
Wouldn't the open choke just give you faster spread of the pattern? In effect limiting the potentional of hits on target.

Traditionally yes, but the new Flitecontrol wad stuff doesn't seem to care so much what kind of choke its shot through as far as I can tell. Also those newfangled wad retarding removable chokes such as the Wad Wizard and Patternmaster seem to throw some spooky tight patterns without presenting much of a constriction.
