What choke for sporting clays?

I've used my Browning Gold for sporting clays once with the modified choke.
Didn't do well, but I'm a lousy shot.....

An old refrain of duck hunters and their full choke guns ... many would do much better with less choke !

If you're having trouble hitting clays ( that are probably a lot closer than you shoot ducks ), perhaps try
a little less choke as suggested ... maybe Cylinder, Skeet of Improved Cylinder.

Shooting Sporting Clays once for an admittedly "lousy shot" can be daunting-to-disheartening, but certainly one
way to improve is "get back at it". A little less choke and a flat or two of shells should help boost the scores.
Beware of a lot of unsolicited help & advice while on the course. While perhaps sincere and well-meant, it is
most often not based on any true understanding of exactly "what ails you".

I've start first time trap shooting in Feb2013 (not much experience), I scored 9 of 25 in the first round than I've read instructions/recommendations about which choke to use with that ammo from the ammo box, and i scored 19 of 25 in the second round.
That surprised me too, I'll go again today and see if I can repeat.

Regardless. I had a lot of fun, and can't wait for the next time. So have fun.

Cheers.

Put in the IC chokes and forget about them. Concentrate on on the target and feel confident that those chokes will deliver a good pattern out to 50 yds. Shoot lots and enjoy. :)

Agreed! Take it from Bat..... he averages 95% or better on ALL our courses...rabitts, teals, Batts you name it.... he nails it!
I run IC 99% of the time on our Sporting courses except the @#$% Swamp Grouse course. I use IC & M... dam flying aspirin (minis) at 50+ yards are a bit of a challenge lol!

I have to agree changing shot size will do more for you than changing chokes at every station . I like LM in a single barrel gun and LM and IMP CYL in my O/U .

I put in skeet for first and ic for second, while keeping a mod and full in my pocket with a wrench in case a long shot station comes up. I found I enjoyed sporting clays more when I quit monkeying with chokes every station, and my scores have shown a drastic improvement at the same time! Coincidence?

I've used IC/IC for the last 15000+rnds without changing them and never a target I could't hit (consistantely is another story). I made the switch to LM/LM this past weekend and the only thing I've noticed so far is fewer pieces and more dust.

Any choke will work if you do your part, but tighter makes the hits that much better. When in doubt IC
