What classic powder should I buy for starting .270 and .30-30 reloading

From one amature reloader to the next! Please get yourself a scale and you can use the web to figure out the grains of your preferred powder, I’m an amateur reloader myself and you may not take what I say for much but a scale and measuring out your powder load is perhaps your most important step In the reloading process, if not for the best in possible accuracy of your load then for your own safty. They can be not that expensive but a little time consuming or vise versa depending on what you get but well worth it in the end!

This is good advice. Try your lee loader, with one powder, the scoops.....only with new brass.

Once you decide you need better gear, and will continue reloading, then upgrade. Your process of upgrading never ends, neither does component hoarding.

IMO, the lee loaders are a prepping...bug out ...emergency item. A single stage cast iron press, dies, calipers, scale, and trimmer are absolutely necessary.

My biggest issue with the lee loaders is the lack of feel in priming. Too add to the quoted posters caution on scales. Brass prep/inspection is a absolute essential safety step, priming feel is a safeguard for visual brass inspection. Loose primer pockets tell you your brass is used up, or your loading too hot.

Those two calibers need different powders to get decent performance. It won't cost you more to have a can of each.

I would use 748, H335 or BLC2 in the 30-30 and W760 or H414 (same powder) in the 270.

Don't ever use the wrong one in the 270!

I have used the 52 charge of Win 760 /130gr in the .270 and it tore one ragged touching hole.Win data book claims 2990fps with 49,500 CUP The 150gr bullet uses 49gr /Win 760 for 2725fps at 48,5000 CUP
