What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

You can develop safe and accurate loads that aren't in any load manual, including smokeless for antiques.

Every "Wildcat" has already been done.

Pledge works well as a case lube for pistol reloading. It may not be necessary with carbide dies, but it does cut down the effort required, especially with larger cases like .44 Magnum. Little residue is left behind, so there is no need to clean the loaded rounds afterwards. For rifle cases, I stick to Dillon lube.

Made my own media separator cuz I didnt want to pay $50 plus tax for one.

What I ended up paying was $22 bux worth of parts from my favorite dollar store.

Took about 90mins to put it all together. Hardest part was finding hose clamps in my garage to use as a hinge & locking clamp.

I wet tumble with stainless steel media in a Thumler system ( see 1st pic ) and I dont want to lose any of the media since they will last forever.

Here is the basket where the brass & media will be placed.

Here it is attached to the storage bin ready to be spun round & round.

So the only thing I have to finish this off is a crank handle on the ends so I can spin it easier.

Ill make that with the scrap lumber that I have in the garage.

Oh almost forgot, the storage bin came with a cover !...hence I will cover the bin while Im spinning the basket so the media & water wont fly out all over the table and floor !

The biggest secret I have learned over the years is that I can find a good load for almost any gun when I load to SAAMI OAL.

I haven't really messed around with overall length in years.

I have a heavy-duty 6" vise out in the workshop but I decided I needed a lighter gun vise in my gun room, aside from the cradle I'd made to sit on the bench. This one mounts on the bench but can be easily removed. It's sturdy enough for most regular chores such as cleaning etc. The jaws (Bessey) are nylon and have magnets on the back.

It bolts into a 5/8" nut welded to a sq. washer fastened to the backside of the front edge of the bench:

It was fun to build. I'll probably come up with some refinements or improvements as I use it.

I'm still waiting for someone to post a homemade brass separater , I've been toying with afew ideas in my head but nothing fruitful yet .

I use a steel cat litter scoop that I've put a deeper curve on by bending around a pipe.

Like the waste paper basket dollar store idea. I take it the pink things on the endds are what's left of the toilet plunger heads?

I modified a frakford arsenal jiffy trickler.
I was tired of always having dead batteries and there is lotts of sun light in the reloading room.
I've gutted a solar light and incorporated its circuits into the hollow base of the trickler, add two rechargeable AA batteries and leave the empty tricler on the south facing window sill when not in use.

My brass separator was $6.

I took rubber made containers and applied two steps:

1) leave one contain as is
2) take a .308 casing and use a hammer to punch .308 holes in the bottom of the other container

Bam separator.

Nest the one with holes into the first one. Then dump brass and media into it. Then shake for a bit and all the media is in the container without holes.

Cheaper still- I just turn my (Lyman) tumbler on and hold it upside down over a similar container, shaking gently as well. The media drops through the slots in the top into the container. :)

For seating 100 gr Hornady XTPs in 7.62X54R/.303B I set up the Lee FCD to just hold the neck while I start the bullet using the seating plug out of the seating die and a brass hammer. With a roll crimp die and the flat base on the bullets I just couldn't get one to seat without egging out the neck, this solution worked awesome. After all the bullets were started in the necks I finished seating in the die and gave them a light factory crimp.

My media separator.
The first white wire mesh garbage basket was commonly bought at store several years ago,
but when the bottom eventually broke out i couldnt find another in any stores, and laced up the bottom of it with small zip ties.
The one piece all plastic one should still be available.
I found the one in the pic at the end of someones driveway on garbage day, about 2 years ago.
