So I decided I'd give my M1 a new look today. I don't really care for the old beat up appearance it's currently carrying. Don't get me wrong, I like old rifles; but I like them to look as pristine as possible.

So as you can see I've got it all masked off.
It was easier than I first thought it'd be.

(Sorry about the quality)

And now I've got to decide what colour I want this pig to be.
The Sikkens has got a red tint to it, and thought that'd be cool to give it a more modern/sporty/laminated sort of look.

The Benjamin Moore is OD-ish green. I think it would give the rifle more of a synthetic look. Plus you'd get the added camo for in the woods.

And the General Paint is just your regular brown wood looking paint. Give it a factory fresh look, eh?

GASP!!!

You're going to try to strip and/or stain the stock with the action still installed? You're going to use DECK STAIN???

How about removing the action, then stripping the wood with a non-water-based stripper, then applying an alcohol-based stain, then finally either a BLO or tung-oil finish?

I need a drink after seeing those pictures... :)

I would go with the brown solid paint, and good job masking it off, thats how the pro's do it. You may want to consider a tremclad gold fleck for the metal parts. It would look hot. On second thought go with the tremclad brushed steel for the barrel. Can I send you my Lee Enfield for you to refinish? How much would you charge?

After you've made your $500 garand into a piece of ####, I'll give you 50 bucks for it!

Seriously, you want a pimped M1? Sell the old beast on here before you irreversably MOLEST it, and buy a Norinco M14...

you have just unleashed the anger of the milsurp forum, people aroudn here generally disaprove heavily of any bubba work on a perfectly good milsurp, thats why we have sks's to play with, that m1 looks very good the way it is, if you ask me. why paint it, only to make it decrease in value and in appearance.

I can only assume this is a joke post. Any one who's posted in this forum would know the reaction it would get.

Let's just let this one die.

It is pretty funny though, considering the crap we have seen "Bubbas" do to their rifles.

Uh, you got me. I was hoping I'd get a little more anger thrown my way before I came straight.
Hell, look at what I named the pics. With titles like that, I thought you guys would have picked up right away.

My boss, and fellow gun enthusiast, put me up to it.
We were laughing for a solid ten minutes when this little idea popped into our heads.
Although I suppose it wasn't that funny.
That or I just can't make jokes work worth a damn.

And for the record, I may be slow but I'm not stupid.
I'd never refinish any stock with the action and all it's bits still in place.

And for all you naysayers.
I've got the proof. Not a drop touched her.
