what coyote gun to get??

If your still looking for a 22-250 you may want to call Gagnon sports in Ontario i was there on the weekend and they had a used model 70 winchester for $949.

no, i wouldn't use my .17 for coyotes. i just mentioned that i was not happy with my savage because i have to sight it in every time i go shooting, so i am looking for a different brand of gun for coyotes. thanks.

if you want to save hides, pick up a 22-250. any ruger, wichester, browning, remington, savage, tikka etc that you like

if you want to just kill them, check out a 243 or 6mm in the same rifles

I prefer bolt action model 700 remingtons, and I currently shoot a 223 Rem for predators, the lvsf

I second the 243 or 6mm. My 6mm spits out the 87 Vmax @ 3450 fps and hits them like lightning.

Two things I would do if this was my first varmint rifle purchase.

Save as much money as you can on the rifle, and spend more on the scope. :D

You can get a Stevens 200 in 223, 22-250 or 243 that will most likely shoot half an inch out of the box. I have three of them that will do that right now, and know a lot of others that have the same experience with the 200.

You can still get the Stevens for $320-370. Spend at least that much on a scope and you will have a pretty good outfit to get started.

If you want to be really smart, spend twice as much on the scope. There is nothing quite as satisfying and sensible as truly excellent optics. This will still keep you around the thousand dollar mark. You won't regret it, and if you buy another rifle you can just switch the scope.

I will tell you now, you can spend all the money you want on a poodle shooter, here's what I did.

Savage weather warrior, stainless rifle, synthetic stock, 22-250
bushnell banner dusk and dawn 6-24x40 mil dot
rock mount bipod

altogether 830$ and drives tacks, the gun ain't purty lookin, its ugly, the stock is plastic and feels like it crap, a little bit of fine tuning with a knife to remove excess bits and 20$ worth of pachmayer pac skin to make it feel nice in places you have to touch it, The scope aint the best, but its damnned good for 160$ worth of scope, I bought it in sept of last year, and it has brought the end of the yellow dog over 20 times, from anywhere between 50 yards and 500
I have a remington sendero sf in 300 win mag with a leupold 4-12 and the savage does everything acuuracy wise as it does for a third the cost. the sendero is just cause i wanted a sniper cannon.

Savages are great. Or go with the Stevens 200 - same crappy stock (accurate, sure, but crappy nonetheless. Nothing a good bedding job and some fibreglass bondo in the forend won't fix)

coyote rifle

First you have to know how far you will shoot, inside 200yds a .222rem or a .223rem would work pretty good. A 340 Savage is a nice little cheap rifle that will do this, but hard to find sometimes because they sell cheap. You can't go wrong with a .22-250 or a .220Swift, these calibers are designed to kill coyotes and they do it well. I shot my first buck with a .22-250 at 180yds with a 70gr speer bullet and that buck didn't run 20yds. Remington, Winchester, Ruger, Savage, Browning it doesn't matter. Remember a scope is a sight you get what you pay for. Buy a Leupold and never have to worry about your scope again.
