shoots good just want the next step it is a hunting rifle so what custom barrel would you guys choose.

I like a 30 incher but she gets heavy to pack - especially on a goat or sheep hunt off of the Tuchodi River! lol

I like to use mine for long-range muleys and California's off the Fraser. Shots across the river are no problem in some strategic spots! Lots of time for followups and clicking. They have no idea where it's coming from but you still gotta keep hidden. If they see you moving you are toast. They can do the math real quick.

One time I had a buck run down and swim across to me. Couldn't see him in the coulees. Smart buck. If he stayed on the far side he stood a good chance of being Lapooched.

Sportjets and Lapuas. Lethal combo.

Chromoly Kreiger #2 standard sporter, but with a slightly longer barrel shank would weigh in at 3# and finish at 24"

That is as light as you can get a 338 barrel from Krieger, and would be as accuracte as you will find anywhere.

The M995 weighs a little over 8 pounds less scope (Sako says 8-1/8 pounds).

Depending on scope your complete rifle weight would be 9 to 9-1/2 pounds.....Just about right IMHO.

I shoot 8 pound 416s for fun and I think a 7 pound (complete) 338Lapua would be a bad thing. :p

Anything over much over 26-28 inches would begin to make hunting difficult and I don't think would offer much help to a hunter.
