What did I ever do before the right tools?

After purchasing a case tumbler and some more reloading tools I have come to wonder what in the world I was thinking before. I used to hand clean the brass and make tools to do the jobs of the prpoper ones. I now have the right tools and can not believe what a difference it makes in time and frustration to clean, size, clean, clean primer pockets the load 260 roounds of 30-06 and .308. It helped me find 12 cases that were not suitable for reloading that could have caused personal harm.
We can never be too safe.

I can relate. I used to give my son some latex gloves, a rag, and some polish. "Here boy, make that brass glow." Then I bought a tumbler, what a treat. Going right now to get a case trimmer.
 
I guess it's that make up the mind to spend the $$ thing.
Me, I jump right in with both feet.
I had a local RCMP out in the MAN shop.
He looked around and said "Wow, what do you do for a living?"
I told him I was a hit man for the mafia. :)
He just laughed.
Tools are a great investment. Plus they are soooo cool to use.;)
I found a deal on a drill press and a stick welder.
I passed them onto my dear friend. Told him to pay me when you're good and
ready. Didn't take him long. The drill press just amazed him. He couldn't believe
he has been on this planet this long and didn't own one of these.

I to used to use old Tide jugs with soap an vinegar with a lot of shaking and rinsing forever to clean brass and then let them sit for 24 hours to dry... Now an hour or so in the tumbler and they're ready to reload. Saves a ton of time and BS.

And with a tumbler, bigger is better if you are like me and are lazy.

I wait until I have at least 5k brass in a big bucket (sorted for small and large primer) before I even bother doing a load.

I just toss them in my Dillon CV-2001 a thousand at a time and leave them overnight on a 6 hour timer with some brass polish, dump the next batch in the next day, and repeat untill it is all ready to be loaded.

Tools make life worth living.... that and duct tape. :p
 
I have just about everything I need to do the job. Most of it is factory stuff, except my tumbler...which is of fogducker style design. I have altered some of the stuff, I attached a cordless drill to my forrester case trimer.etc...
The primer pocket cleaning and case mouth deburring is labor intensive and I am looking for a better way of doing it. What tool do you use for yours?

That was me 35 years ago, except Dad didn't give me latex gloves. We had soap and water.




I've never bothered with the tumbler for many decades. As long as the brass was clean and free of defects it could be used for another loading. I have a tumbler just recently acquired. Its great for removing the sizing lube as well. Prior to this, I would just bring a big bag of brass over to a Buddy's place with offerings of beer and/or a bag of media and it would be done for me.


As reference to the OP, all the right tools do make a difference. For many years we just pooled out resources together as shooting Pals. I have a heated 2-story shop with all the goodies in it. Friends who load here regularly keep their Dies, powder, brass,and primers, ect in a set of lockers when they leave, where it is un-touched in their absence from a padlock. Its a good deal for the guys that don't have the equipment or space to do it. We drink beer, load ammo, and shoot the sh*t.

It is great of rifle cartridges also... cleans the primer pockets and the inside of the case but the example only shows pistol cartridges... to find examples of rifle cartridges please see the following thread

When you use Lemishine with stainless steel pins.. the brass looks like gold...
