What did I loose in value?

I don't think you're being a baby, Joe. I'd be pissed too!

The reason rifles still in the original cosmoline command a higher price is because they are still in mint condition. As far as I'm concerned, the minute the grease and wrap are removed, the rifle depreciates in value. Sort of like coin collecting, mint specimens command a higher premium.

Personally, I think people are asking too much for the Fazakerly's to begin with. If I wanted one to collect, I'd want it wrapped up and untouched. If I wanted one to shoot, I'd just want to be sure it wasn't abused.

No4 Mk2 In Grease

I still have one in the grease, and when I first heard about them I told a friend to order me three. He ordered three but kept two. I wasn't happy about that, but mine is still in the grease in a transit box. I would be pissed if I bought one and it had been screwed with before I picked it up. You have to remember that there are two kinds of gun people Collectors, and Shooters. Collectors want their guns in new in the grease and condition and then there are the others that can't wait to shoot them or modify them.
The collectors can shoot any of the used ones anytime but the shooters can't wait to shoot or modify them (most of them can't wait to wreck their value). Let them, the ones that are shot just make the new ones in the grease worth more. I have a friend that is obsessed with shortening the barrel or wood or blades, we call him "Hacksaw". He knows better than come around me after he has F&%$@d up a nice looking gun.

I have been looking for a Brazilian model 1935 in 7mm for years, and last year. I heard about an American guy that liked 7mm's so he bought a new 1935 with matching bayonet, sent it to the gunsmith and had the barrel shortened, bolt bent, restocked, and drilled and tapped for scope. Spent over $1,300 before he was finished, ruined a mint 1935, and still has a Mauser 98 sporterized. The gun on the market is probably worth about $500, because it is only a sporterized military rifle. I would have given him my 1948 with double set triggers, 7mm Brno for it but the Dumb Ass didn't know the difference.

New Money makeing opportunity!! Make up wooden dummies of Lee Enfields, dip them in cosmoline and wrap em up!! Sell them for 400$ to "collectors" who will never clean or shoot them!! They get a new "rifle" in the grease, we get 400$ to spend on ammo to shoot in ours and every one is happy, because they never look to see that they've been duped!!

:D

For sale, enfield conversion package: 2 lbs of cosmoline and 10 feet of paper
200$

Exactly. If you don't open it, how do you really know whats under the wrap??? :D

I like that idea...Now if only there was a way to fob off fake rifles on bubba to save the real deal. Reminds me of a guy at the local sport shop who will gloatingly tell anyone who will listen about how he takes worthless military guns and "converts" them into high value sporting projects:mad: He brags about finding original enfields from farmers for paltry sums and then ruining them(although the latest he told me about was an original K98...). I asked him to pass some of the military ones on to me, or at least give me the uncut wood and he just laughed like I was trying to cut in on his market...Someone should bubba him...

Thanks guys

Was I ever on the wrong track, based on most of your posts I now realize that it has no collectors value and is simply a shooter

So I have had the stock sporterized and had it drilled and tapped so that I can mount my tasco scope on it

Cheers

Joe
