I started my collection about a year ago in this order:
Remington pistol grip 12 gauge(bear repellent)
Ruger 22 with folding stock and red dot(the boy shoots it)
Russian SKS $160
Lee enfield no 4 sportster $80
Lee enfield no 5 Jungle Carbine $80
Svt-40 $299
Ross m-10 $275
Steyr M95 $100 sporster
Mosin nagant $140
K31 $300
Steyr m95 original full wood $220
Vz58 $899
Keltec sub 2000 $699

Where do I go from here? I was thinking on a Mauser that takes .308 I would like to turn to rifles that take ammo easily available anywhere. .308, .303, 5.56, .223.

Next to get would be one of the following:
Mauser .308
Kel tec su-16 .223
Norinco m305
Dominion arms 12.5 inch barrel 12 gauge with magazine.

What other milsurps are worth getting? I only have a non-restricted permit so no pistols. Any more Russian rifles to get under $1000?

Hmm, broad focus, isn't it. Trying to answer the question asked in your thread title, i would dare to say that going in too many directions simultaneously could be seen as ill-advised, collection-wise. But it is fun.

As mentionned above, you'll have to more closely define the parameters of what collection means to YOU. If you're focusing on Spanish -American war Mausers...you're way off.

Nevertheless keep at it:)

$80.00 Jungle Carbine ?I call B.S or you took advantage of a 90 year old grey haired granny that didn't know what her husband did. I bought a 1864 snider that her ancestor carried and when she wanted $300.00 I was glad to give her $1,000.

$80 No 5 and $80 No 4

check out the bubba 1970's homemade grip!!!! hence the $80 price tag
I fixed up the No 5

You have no direction. Collecting everything will only give you mediocre and subpar examples of everything. If you have a focus, you can spend bigger money to get the best quality of rifle.

Alot of us, including myself started like you, a little of everything. Which is ok until you find what you really like, then continue from there.

Paddle faster, I hear banjo's!
Naw, you are fine. Sooner or later a bug of some sort will getcha. Til then get what strikes you as cool.
That's what I do.
Rather have an eclectic collection of unique rifles that get shot regularly; than a narrowly focused group of safe queens that get shot 40 rd's per year.

I side with tokguy.... I have a mismatch of firearms too (pistols, revolvers... .22cal, .30cal, .38cal, 9mm, .45cal, rifles... .22cal, .223cal, .30cal, .308cal, 7.62x39, 7.62x51, 7.62x54....), but no safe queens..... if you like it, and can afford it, just buy it and shoot it.....

+1. Do what you like and have fun while doing it :)
