During "The Great Saskatchewan Gopher Shoot" in June we had some sharpshooters hitting gophers at 200 yards with their .22's, myself I prefer to be able to tap them with the barrel before shooting;)

When I was in Alberta, it was easy as pie attending a 100 yard or further distance, rifle range.

Here in Nova Scotia, there are more ranges, but most are less than 100 yards.
Therefore my 100 yard rimfire shooting with an accurate 22 rifle has suffered greatly.

I recently geared up for 50 yard rimfire (Much Thanks to CZ452shooter!)and after this is mastered.....its off to the 100 and later 200 yards bench.

I feel confident about 100 yards, with NO wind, certainly 200+,will be challenging I am sure.(Mauser ES350b, & Lyman 32X scope)

Regarding 22 pistol, I shoot my Ruger Mk 2 bull barrel, at 20 and 25 yards indoors.

Mostly at the distance the critter is situated!

Lets see, yesterday I took a pigeon at about 115 yards leaning on a fence post:cool:. 3 gophers at about 30 yards, one off hand, one kneeling the other leaning on a garbage can, and 2 sparrows off hand at about 40 yards! :sniper: Targets are for sighting guns in, IMHO, but for those who aren't fortunate enough to live in the country, I would imagine it gives the same satisfaction, blowing a hole in the bullseye, as killing a small rodent/bird!:dancingbanana:

I guess Im getting old I couldnt even see a gopher at two hundred yards (scope or not) never mind hitting one at that range.Keep up the good shooting.

100 yard groups?

I spent the weekend trying to sight in my Bushnell 3-9x Trophy on my Savage FVSS, and have got groups down to about 2" at 100 yards, but most are in the 3 to 4" size. Is this the best I should expect from this rifle and scope combo, or do I have more work to do?
Really looking forward to gopher sniping next month!

usually 10-60 yards. past that i probably have little chance of a good hit unless i have a rest, which is usually never present when gophering. my offhand skills are lacking too so i try to limit myself.

usually 100. Sometimes 50. But, when you're out shooting gophers, you'll frequently be called on to make shots past 50 yards

I keep my 597's scope sighted to 50 meters for general plinking, and at the range I'll take it out to 100m when I get bored of the 50 and 75.

Pretty much 50m for all of my rimfire 22s as the 2 that have scopes are using rimfire scopes which I am told are not set up to be really useful out to 100m.
That said, anything farther away is going to get to play with the 22cf, my precious 223 although my CZ452 should allow me to reach out and touch a critter or two at much longer distances. May check that out this summer.
