I obtained this rifle very recently from a friend who had it sitting for years in a closet, and had no use for it, so turned it over to me. It is missing the bolt assembly and magazine (looks to be a detachable mag). The question I have, what exactly is this??

The only markings on the rifle are "parker hale LTD birmingham england" on the barrel, 30-06 Cal., BNP with a crown on the barrel and receiver, and on the left side of the receiver "Safari". I am quite sure that it is a Parker Hale 1200C Safari, but anything I look up shows a rifle with a smaller, rounder trigger gaurd.

Please, clarify for me what I now have as a new project rifle, and where one might find a magazine or two and a bolt assembly/other parts for this project.

That won't be too hard.

I would start with Western Gun Parts for the magazine, as well as posting here, of course.

Almost any 98 Mauser bolt will fit, however the rifle will have to be headspaced properly. There may be some issues with the cocking piece on the bolt working with the adjustable trigger, but any competent 'smith can handle that. :)

It will have to be headspaced even if you find a Parker-Hale bolt.

It appears that the trigger guard has been pushed up a little bit. Everyone of them that I have had my grubby paws on has been more rounded.
Parts for the 1200 C are available, it may take some digging to find them. Depending on how much you want to spend, it may be a cheaper alternative to part it out and buy a complete rifle.

The action of this fine Parker-Hale is made in La Coruna, Spain, from an arsenal that used to make Mauser 98 for the spanish military. Therefore you should have no problems in having a standart Mauser 98 bolt made to fit this Parker-Hale, by a gun smith. Good luck.
