What do I have? Pictures!

Greetings!

This christmas, a friend of mine passed on a bunch of ammo + reloads. However, I am unsure as to exactly what I have, if it is corrosive, or how much it is worth! Thus, I turn to you guru's. I know the calibers, and my german is somewhat compatible with the swiss box so I can somewhat figure it out, but as for it's value and corrosiveness? Not sure. A 1 to 10 on the Corrosivity-Will-Eat-Your-Bore-For-Lunch would be helpful for each of the ammo types here! My friend also included 2 loose British rounds, he says they should be the same as what is in the box, but are labeled VIII not VII? What era are these rounds? Worth?

Looks like 303 british Mk 8 ammo. I think that is vickers machine gun ammo. Snipers use the mk 8 because it was a little hotter.
Just guessing. Primers might be corrosive.

That Swiss ammo is 7.5x55 GP11. Probably worth 40$ or so if that 60 round box is full. That box of .303 is canadian surplus, noted by the C broad arrow marking. The clear bag is either 7.62 x 54r silvertip (hungarian?) or 8mm Mauser silvertip (yugo or czech I think). That brown box with 15 rounds in it is 7.62 x 54r, yugo I believe, probbaly worth 12-15$.

Ammo

The two loose rounds of 303 are Yugoslavian Mk 8. The 48 rounds of 303 are Canadian Mk 7 probably WW II vintage - very good ammo.

It's no where near 8mm. Mauser , 8mm. has a straighter slightly longer case and is not rimmed like .303 or x54r rounds are.

keep that 303. its collectpr ammo now, had to come by, never shoot it, evnem sell it to a collector, and besides the swiss looks like you got some full bore 7.62x54 ammo for the mosen nagant

Im not saying I know exactly what it is, but if you look at picture number 4, it is clearly rimmed. I only KNOW of two milsurp calibers that some in silvertip and thats 8mm and 7.62x54r. Please, somone correct me if im wrong.

The bag is reloaded ammo. Possibly a steel cased 7.62 x 54R. What's on the headstamp? A magnet will tell you if they're steel. Fabulous bullets those Silvertips. Really a soft point with an Al cap.
Shooting other people's reloads isn't a good idea. Unless they were reloaded by a commercial reloader. You have no idea if the loader knew what he was doing or what powder was used.
Mk VIII ammo was accepted in 1938. Uses a 174 grain spitzer bullet. Mk VII was accepted in 1910. Uses a 175 grain spitzer BT bullet. Both at 2440 fps.
The best .303 ammo I've ever shot was 1944 vintage DA while in the Queen's Service. Mk VIII, I think. Wasn't recently. Far better than the IVI we got later.
'PP' and 'PPU' is Privi Partizan. Yugoslavia. I'm not seeing the 'YU' though.

The .303 is Defence Industries Mk. VIIz. Boxer primed, non-corrosive, 174gr flatbased bullet, nitrocellulose propellalnt Excellent ammunition, excellent cases.
Mk.VIII was developed for the Vickers machinegun, bullet is boattailed to enhance long range performance. Because of the different trajetory, the sight calibration of rifles doesn't work.
The Yugo ammuntion is Mk. VIII. A fair amount of it was sold here a number of years ago.
The tip colour on the 7.62x54r refers to bullet weight. I forget now if that is heavy ball or light ball. Yellow tips are the other version.

The silvertip looks like czech 7.62x54r, the stuff that used to come in crates - good stuff. The brown box is Yugo repacked Russian 1940's era 7.62x54r. The round should all be one colour, a brown/reddish/orange shiney colour

Hello, thanks and excellent replies, I will keep that Canadian Mk.VIIz then! I look forward to shooting the swiss and the nagant ammunition at the range! That box has all bullets that are same colour, except 5 that are bronze cased and have gold-coloured bullets. Any ideas?

Yes, that is is, except the bullets are gold tipped.

Several years ago I pulled a bullet from that Yugo Mk.VIII. It weighed 192 grains!

Hmm very cool. I once pulled a bullet from a russian surplus 8mm mauser round/yugo possibly? It weigh 205.5 grains!
