What do I have to do to sell 40 S&W

Price is pretty much everything these days! To me, I am loyal to my dollar, and will rarely get attached to a specific seller, (there are some exceptions, but really needs to be over the top service for me). I do appreciate you asking what you can do better, shows great initiative, and a willingness to listen to your customers, (also drum up business because I did spend time on your website looking around!).

You are specifically in a very hard, competitive, dog eat dog online world. I am looking at getting something in .40 and I have searched everything all over Canada, and I have also looked at price of ammunition. Your $300 for free shipping is great and an advantage also not an unreasonable amount needed to qualify. However, I go to this place usually to do many purchases. Now it is a 4 hour round trip drive for me, and while they do have an online presence and do ship product, I would say they went the opposite direction as you and mainly do in store purchases as emailing them, and even calling them SUCKS (as posted in other threads). http://www.thegundealer.net/inventory.php?Category=317

HAND GUN AMMO

CCI Blaser 9mm 115gr Full Metal Jacket $19.99 per 50 $299.99 per 1000

So basically, you are $35 more expensive, HOWEVER, if they were to ship, I am positive you are cheaper. And for me to drive to go get this ammo, it would require gas, so you are technically right on, but I don't drive down there just for the ammo. So what would it take for me to buy it from you (hypothetical as I don't own one yet) would need to be around $425 free ship. And I think once shipping is applied, I doubt there is much (if any) margin for you.

Now you wrote about what can you do to move this. I know you understand that sitting on inventory costs money, also as some have said here there seems to be less interest in the .40. I'm guessing blow this one out at cost or below, keep small inventory for people who add on when buying something else, and focus on stealing the market with .45 and 9mm, but again make sure you can beat most others! figure out how to be able to be lower than everyone ( pre orders to get a bigger volume discount? or just super bulk? I am not sure how as I am not the most familiar in these types of buying power with this product). To get me, you need to be the clear winner of being the cheapest! Thanks for asking, really does show a willingness to become a great seller!

Personally I try and keep to as few calibres as possible, this lets me bulk buy and keep the cost down.
The price of the gun is normally a small factor when you start to price ammo in, unless you want a safe queen.
Even if a 9mm is $50 dearer I will buy that instead and on you first 500 rounds you already made your money back.

I myself need to buy a bunch of .40, but am waiting to get a real good sale price. Realize I missed a big sale now reading some of the posts of here about another dealer.
Long story short, I don't buy ammo at regular price.

The prices you're posting are for quantities of 500, this was for quantities of 1000. When you factor in shipping it's basically a wash for the most part. Quite a bit better than a wash at the sale price. I think .40 just isn't that popular a calibre, plus a lot of guys reload.

Umm, Okay simple math, $220 (500) x 2 gives us 1000 for what was stated above ( I have never seen a 1000 round box that is not made up of smaller boxes) and the rest is exactly as I stated above, but umm thanks for coming out!

I think there a misunderstanding here. Our sale price was under $400 for 1000 rounds. Thank you for your feedback though. Hope to see you for our next sale.

Here is a good price target that still works, I checked a few companies and their stock:

9 mm - $15 per box
40 - $20 per box
45 - $25 per box

Many offer a free shipping over $200 - 300.

Right now I found 9 mm for $14.95, 40 for $16.95 and 45 for $25.50 per box. All boxer primed, etc. Free shipping if I buy 1000 rounds.

I can afford to shop around online and save few bucks.

If I can buy 1000 40 S&W for $339.00, why in the world I would pay you $474.99?

Simple like that.

I sense he'll try to match.

I don't want to call myself a genius, but when CanadaAmmo sells the same ammo for regular price of $399.00 for 1000 with free shipping + an opportunity to grab some other products in the free shipping order, it is kinda pointless to hope that you can move the same ammo for price over $400.

Now, the CanadaAmmo doesn't have the best deal in town, but it has the same ammo. Others may have cheaper ammo, but different brand. It also have sales once in a while. I did got some 45 acp from them for a price of 40 S&W few weeks ago. Right now you can get 500 40S&W PMC for $199.99 WITH FREE dry box where you can store the same ammo.
