What do I have ?

Definitely a Cooey 82- the cut on the rear of the receiver was for an aperture sight, which only came on the 82 models I believe.

The Cooey 82 was decked out with full wood, rear peep sight, and a front sight protected with "wings" so it offered a reasonable facsimile to an Enfield, to be used as a military trainer rifle. Neat guns. It's a shame somebody chopped this one up.

It also came on some model 78's. You could also get the model 82 without a full wood stock .

I agree with gunsaholic that it could be a model 78 or 82 that has been bubba'd/sporterized. The lack of barrel markings perhaps suggests a "lunchbox" Cooey?
