what do I need?

I'm trying to attach a scope to the rail that came with my 10/22. The rings don't grab the rail. Do I need new rings? new rail? I know nothing of optics so any help is appreciated. I took a picture but I can't figure out how to attach it either.

did the scope come with the rings? there is 15 and 20mm rings for weaver style rails.. if the rings are to narrow to fit on the rail you will need new rings, they can be had for like 25 bucks

the rings came with the scope (got it for free), and they are to big for the rail.

sounds like you have the 20mm mount rings/bases and will need to go down to the 15mm

sure sounds that way from how i understand it, just make sure the ring size itself matches the scope.....
