some of you may have followed my previous thread about my plans to start at .22 cal and go up by 2's (.22, .24, .26, etc)
Well Wifey and I are heading to Kamloops tomorrow and I need to know what to look for.
I'm stuck on .38 .40 .42, and .50 cal. What's available out there in a non-restricted (rifle). I'm thinking .375 H&H, .375 Ruger, or .416 Ruger. I don't even know of any .40 cal rifles that I can buy factory ammo for. .50 is easy, I'd just buy a BP rifle.
I need some suggestions.......................quick, we're leaving in the morning!

just remember................Wifey's paying for it, money's no object. just have to be able to buy it in Kamloops.
She's been looking at the Wholesale Sports catalogue and is interested in the Ruger 77 African in .375 Ruger.
I was looking at the Ruger #1 in .375 H&H

If money's no object tell your wife she's looking at the wrong shop.
To keep it reasonable...look at a Kilimanjaro Doctari. Maybe in 416 Rigby, or 505 Gibbs. :D

Sorry, didn't read the "just have to be able to buy it in Kamloops"...unless you have some serious big game hunters there willing to help you out.

WOW!! Just checked it out. That's a seriously nice rifle! Thanks for bringing it to my attention.

My money manager is not so impressed. I'm trying to explain that it will likely do better than most of his picks!

Just reread that and it sounded kind of ghey.
Wanted to add that I am not ghey...not that there's anything wrong with that...

Thanks Gibbs 505
I'd prefer something that I can maybe get ammo for in Canada (LOL)
We'll see what Wholesale and Powder Keg have on the rack. I'll let you know

I find this to be an odd question. Money is no object, but it HAS to be in Kamloops. If money is no object then why such an artificial limitation? You can buy .500 NE in Canada - from two of our sponsors: Wolverine and Trade Ex.

There are so many nice rifles out there; Cooper, CZ Magnum, Mauser 98 or 03 etc etc.

We're "impulse shoppers"
Need to find something in Kamloops or she'll change her mind. (not a patient girl, when she wants it, she wants it NOW!)
Besides, living in Arsehole, BC, tough enough to find reloading components already without paying an arm and a leg for shipping.
Trust me, I'm willing to wait for a CZ or something else, but she's footing the bill, so I'll take what I can.
Who knows, she shops for the "pretty guns". I don't know what will strike her fancy. Last time we were in Calgary she wanted to buy a $3500 Beretta shotgun for me because it had nice wood

Then you definately need a double from Tradex!
If I had your girlfriend buying for me that's what I'd get.
Just saying...

Replying to "pretty gun". Forgot about 'Kamloops only' again.

Have this shipped via overnight express to you in Kamloops:
http://store.prophetriver.com/model-1885-50-90-sharps-30/

But if you absolutely must get something from WSS then look at the Ruger Deluxe M77RSM.

First does she have a sister with the same amazing quality? How bout a 405 winchester lever gun or a 450/400 nitro in a ruger #1. Both would satisfy the 40 cal and both are great hunting rounds for north america and africa

She has 2 sisters but they're nowhere near as nice. You don't even want to think about going there.

FLHTCIU: we were heading to Kamloops to visit a friend any way. i've found that the place in williams lake is drastically overpriced on most items.

Anyway, here's the result:

Browning X-Bolt Stainless Hunter in .375 H&H
She paid for the rifle, I paid for the "add-ons"
Leupold VX2 (1-4x20) Sliver Leupold bases and rings
RCBS dies
100 Remington brass
Hornady Interlock 260 gr RNSP bullets (break-in with cheap bullets)

Rifle, scope, rings and bases were purchased at Powder Keg. Great store to deal with. Gave me a break on the pricing on the bullets, bases and rings and threw in a box of Federal ammo ($54.00 value) for free.

I had to go back to WSS to get the brass and dies.
WSS had a nice Ruger African .375 Ruger, but no ammo, or brass. They had .375 H&H ammo, but no firearms for it.
I thought twice about a little Lyman "Ideal" falling block in 38-55. but it was used and they wanted over $1400 for it.

Powder Keg had a Ruger African in .416 Ruger, but the Browning had nicer wood (remember, it had to be pretty!)

Sitting in a motel room in Kamloops eating pizza right now, so no photos yet.
