Rather than a question of the minimum for big game, my question is: Any one use 357/38spl for small game? Coyotes? Jackrabbits with 38s or downloads? I have a 357 marlin lever coming. Haven't hunted in years, but I just might start again...

would prolly make a really fun rabbit gun for walking fence lines or snowshoeing in the winter. be far better choice then a .22 if one hunts in areas where they may stumble on a coyote or wolf to take a poke at.

The onlything that I have seen taken by a 357 was a whitetailed buck. It was taken cleanly. It actually wasted more meat then I have ever done with my 308, but that could have been placement.

Keep your shots close, and know where the the bullet is, and the 357 will be fine.

Great cal up to deer. I had a .357 timberwolf a while back. Shot a nice doe with it. I was using 180 gr. Nosler partitions with 13.5gr. of H-110 I've also shot a couple of rabbits with it using hornady 110 gr. xtp's Great hunting rifle.

Dave.
