What do you carry on a hunt?

I will carry a small survival kit (thermal blanket, protien bar, first aid kit), my multi tool, gutting knife, a couple extra rounds of ammo, water, bino's, gloves, extra socks, toque).

for just a day trip I would typically cover only a few kilometers...maybe 10 at the most. My pack weighs about 15lbsish i would say.

x 2 but I usually don't take a pack as I find myself in quite thick brush. Good load bearing suspenders instead to hang the canteen off of.
Skip the e-blanket as I'm usually walking distance from home. Trailmix in a pocket instead of the bar.
But I'll cover about the same distance as MVarley, maybe 10 K's
I consider quad's and trucks too be unsportsmanlike. I've got ability to kill a deer from 200-300 yards, so I think they deserve the advantage of their much greater speed and sense of smell. Most times I'll pack my 38-55, then anything past , say 200 yards lives to enjoy another day.
Now that I think about it I'm getting closer to the BP or Bow-hunting frame of mind every year.
But I just can't get my head around the tree-stand thing. I don't feel like a sniper; I feel like a squirrel,LOL

feel the exact same way cant stand sitting in a tree stand all day.

It depends on where I am or what I'm doing. Usually not much. My knife and ammo on my belt. If I'm close to home I'll take my bino's. If I'm in the mountains I'll also take my compass and a firestarter. If I plan on doing any long hiking I'll take a back pack and throw a couple bottles of water in there and a rope. A little TP is a must. ;) Duck hunting? My gun and ammo bag. It's a rare day when I throw out any decoys.

Small Camelbak with 2l bladder. About 10 ft of rope hanging off the outside, gloves, toque, extra ammo, a snack, knife and a multitool. Depending on the area, a small tarp. And of course, tags.

In "younger days", I'd occassionally load up a pack and head into the bush for a week or so at a time, setting up a spike camp about a days walk in and hunting from there.
You could either say I was overly enthusiastic or just plain stupid, but I sure had lot's of fun and more than a couple "adventures".

Now, I still hunt on foot, but I don't like to pack an animal out more than 1/2 mile or so.
Heck I've lightened up my load so much I rarely even use a scope anymore!

Knife, sharpener, Wyoming saw, lighters, water, compass, GPS, copy of hunting regulations, energy bars, toque, gloves, rope... usually that's most of it. My day pack probably weighs about 10 pounds I would guess.

Toque, Gloves, Knife, stone to sharpen knife, matches or a lighter, TP, binoculars, couple granola bars, 3 bottles of water, 15 feet of rope, 20 rounds, rifle, tags, regs, and a thermos of coffee if I'm really motivated, grab a sandwich on the way outa town. A sleeping bag and tarp as well as an axe if the weather is terrible get thrown in the truck.

No longer a kid. I still hunt on foot but don't go as far. I really don't like packing out moose that far. However, I will drag a deer a little farther. However, I still carry about 15 lbs of gear. Rope, knife, 20 rds, tarp, krazy karpet, emerg blanket, 2 l water, small purifier pump, matches, lighter, fleece jacket, windbreaker, toque, sunscreen, bug juice, trailmix.

You use a loincloth??!! What a wuss!! I go out buck naked except a headband woven from cattail leaves. I also use a flint knife, stone axe, and an atlatl.

Loincloth is quite important ;).....easy to clean or to clean with - when one unexpectedly bumps into one of those big mad hairy thingys with fangs and claws and survives to tell the tale :D

I appreciate all the replies,

I'm working on amassing all the hunting necessities.

I inevitably saw this thread derailing towards "who is manliest in the bush" :p, but I think I got all the suggestions I need.

Cheers,
Sand

I pack a small bag for hunts that consists of:

Gun, ammo, knife, sharpening stone, multi tool, tags/hunting license/gun license, togue, gloves, extra socks, compass, lighter, bino's, water bottle (metal so it can also be used to boil water in if necessary), 20 ft rope, tarp, some tp, and some jerky and granola bars.

It does sound like alot but the bag probably weighs 15 pounds and if I ever got lost or had to spend the night in the bush I could do it relatively comfortably with all of that.

I've managed to get lost within 1 km of home. Funny how night sets in. So it depends very much on the particular route I'm going to follow. Serious still hunting takes an afternoon to go less than a km, so if in a direction I know real well, not much more than gun, knife and tags. Same distance from home can involve all gear listed by other sometime too though, though typically that's for longer trips.

My rifle and load bearing vest with about 12 pounds of gear in it - hunting liscences/tags, water, snack, cell phone, GPS, rangefinder, binos, spare ammo, camera, 2x knives, sparpener, 1x ligher, 1x mini-torch, FMP+pencils, 30' rope, 50' cord, bug dope, sunscreen, 3x empty garbage bags, first aid kit...I think that's about it.

For day hikes and hunts when I cover say 10 to 20k I pack a 28L backpack with the basics,.. matches, some lunch, extra pair of socks, gps/compass, sharpening stone, some twine and picture wire and some marker tape..flashlight..

Things go in and out as the different activities dictate..
