What do you do with your SKS kit?

Щ => Щелочное решение = alkaline solution
Н => Нефть = oil

"Щ" part is somewhat correct.

"Н", however is not for "Нефть", but rather for "Нейтральное" - "Neutral" - "Neutral Oil" (as opposed to alkaline solution).

Russian alkaline solution was some sort of oil with added alkali salts. The idea was that it is works good to clean powder residue and, more importantly - corrosive primer residue. The closest analog available here would, probably, be "Ballistol" brand alkaline oil.

I use my cleaning kit, the sling and stripper clips i got with my sks but the ammo pouch i got with mine is from a mosin nagant the place i bought my sks from was supprised they sold one they told me they had 15 for about 5 years now

Just something that was called "gun oil". That's it :) No brand name, nothing. Im sure there was some technical name or spec name to it, but Im not sure what it was.

There were also 2 variations "normal" one and "light" one. The light one is about twice thinner/lighter than the normal one and was supposed to be used during winter.

I think if you fill "Щ" part with Hoppe's #9 and "H" part with CLP - that would be relatively close to what they had back then. Well - better, probably, since whatever they used for the "Щ" part smelled about twice worse than Hoppe's :)

Winter grade was cut with kerosine?

I made a copy of my registration and keep it in the buttstock with the kit. I actually find that the punch in the kit is the BEST thing for taking off the trigger group when giving the gun a full clean.

I keep my SKS on display, and the oil can and two poutches stay with. When I'm plinking, I have used the pouches to carry clips. They'll hold 4 each I think.

I use a better cleaning kit to keep my SKS looking shiny and working good.
