What do you feed you Norc M14?

...If you want a cheaper plinking ammo, try rolling a 110gr FMJ plated bullets from Frontier, normally used for a 30 carbine, at 64$ for 1000. My cost calculation brought it down to .24¢ a round. It's low recoil and accurate to 200 meters...

Do you have any problems with the action cycling, i.e. not enough pressure due to the lighter bullet?

At around 2700 fps ignited by 41 grains of H4895 the trajectory at 100m is very flat. It will do 1 MOA in calm winds. The BC of that 110 round is around 0.14, not the best, to say the least but it will do fine for less than 200m shooting. As soon as full value wind over 10 mph hits, the damn thing gets weird on me after 150m. It's a great round for IPSC 3 gun matches, if you want to use your M14, for 100m and CQB ranges.

I do not have any problems with cycling. There is seems to be adequate pressure for the gasses to cycle the action efficiently. Again, it just my be my rifle.

I got the Frontier 110s for Higginsons Powder. They also sell them at Marstar but for a bit more.

If you really want to save up with practice ammo and really practicing your scope doping at 200m, use Ed Harris's "the load". It's 13 grain of Red Dot. I shut the gas plug and bolt needs to be hand cycled. I chronoed that load in my Norc at 1900 fps. It's not as accurate as the faster load with the H4895 but at 2-3 inches at 100m and 5-6 inches at 200m, it's much cheaper to shoot and great for practicing wind and range doping. All this still using the Frontier 110 CMJ bullet. BTW "the load" is the basis of developing sub-sonic rounds for your 7.62 ;). Investigate it on the web.

Hope this helps.

M305 reloads

What would you guys suggest for reloads on a m14 shorty?

What I am loading is; IVI brass(full length resized/trimmed), Sierra 155gr HPBT Palma Match, 42.6grs IMR 3031, WLR primers, 2.780 COL.
With irons out to 100 this load groups slightly under 3", thats with a steady rest front & rear (Caldwell front steady rest & Shooters Ridge rear sand bag) These groups will improve more when I mount some optics ;)
:sniper:

What are all you guys using for dies? How many loads are you getting per piece of brass?

Been meaning to start reloading for the 14s for ages, have everying ready except the dies which for some reason I kept chickening out on...read too many opinions on small base or not and got spooky.

So yeah what's the choice for dies and how long is your brass lasting?

I assume you're all running basically stock norks, these aren't TRW bolts lapped to match chambers or anything?

I just switched to the Dillon carbide dies, cause my old Rcbs dies would get
brass build up. I've got 5 loadings so far with Fed brass.
I tried just neck sizing with a lee collet die, worked great for the first batch but the second didn't work so well, cases were sticking in the chamber. Both my M-14s have usgi bolts one is a Springfield and the other is an H&R.

Misanthrophist,

I'm using RCBS dies for full length sizing and seating. I've had these since I was 16. I'm now 42. I've added a lee factory crimp with my set up.

I try to get IVI, LC, and IMI. Those last me 4 firings. After that, I shoot it with "the load" a mentioned earlier. The pressure is way lighter and the brass last me another at least 5 more firings. With regular commercial brass, it usually makes it to only 2.

I am running a stock nork. The only add-ons are a IER burris 2.75X scope mounted on the barrel, shimmed gas system, and a new op rod guide from Marstar. I still have the original chu wood on it but I will be replacing that with a USGI synthetic soon.

I found a can of surplus .308 in the 20 rd light blue boxes. It's been in my shop for about 10 years. Anyone know what it is and if it's any good? Non corrosive?

headstamp 308 win and a "0"?
check surplus probably corrosive.i've got a few boxes of those but am wary of shooting them.
