One of my friends is getting into hunting, and will likley be using a .303Brit (Lee-Enfield), or a 8mm Mauser (Yugo M48).

For these rifle/calibre combinations, which ammunition do you use for hunting deer? Moose? bear?

If you buy the Igman SP from Districorp, how did it preform, and which grain did you buy?

I have shot the Igman 8mm Mauser ammo at targets [198 gr Semi-spitzer] It was fairly accurate and chronographed a lot better than any North American made ammo. Didn't hunt with it though, since I reload the 200 Accubond for my 8X57 [700 Classic Remington] Shot a moose with it last fall....bang-flop!! My 303 British has seen no factory ammo, but I do load the various 174/180 grain bullet in it with Reloder 15 or Vihtavuori N540 or H380 with excellent results. My 303 is a P14. Regards, Eagleye.

303 and 8mm

My Yugo M48 8mm gets a steady diet of Remington 185 grain Core-Lokt bullets over 48 grains of IMR 4895 chronied at 2582.
The No4Mk1 303 is loaded with 150 grain Hornady Interlock's over 45 grains of IMR 4895:cool:

well i use the grey box winchesters for my 303 brit as they are always thwe cheapest at le-barons and just about everywhere else

I own a 303 no.4 mk1 and I use the Winchester 180gr. Power Point ammo. They work great on medium game like deer and they are also rated for big game like moose. I shot a doe at 40yrds with it and it punched an entry wound the size of a toony in the rib cage. I have tested the Federal 150gr. cartridge also at the range, but the Winchester came out a winner. I asked the owner of the range about it and he told me that the guys usually found that the heavier bullets worked best in rifles like mine. Good luck to you and your friend :)

This was my first year hunting; I used a No. 4 sporterized with a scope.
I didn't want to miss so I tested many rounds at the range.
Winchester Powerpoints 180gr were the best for my rifle followed closely with Remington Core-Lokt 180gr round nose.
Igman 180 gr were not halfbad but didn't group as tight and in cold barrel testing were not as consistent. Cold barrel was done by firing one shot from the Enfield and then a couple mags from my 17HMR with the Enfield in the shade to cool, takes a while but if zeroed to a cold barrel I shouldn't need more than one shot.
Federal 150 gr were about a accurate as buckshot in my Enfield, flying every where and a 8" grouping at 100 yds.

All this work and I still missed the first shot at my first deer, though I realized that I had not taken a breath since I had first spotted it, about a minute earlier. My learning has only begun.

I have a Turkish Mauser, and all it gets is hand loaded rounds. I load 150's, 170's, 180's, and 195g bullets, but my favorite deer bullet so far is the Hornady 170g RN. I had a P14 .303 that only liked 180g bullets.

feeding .303

I started with Remington Corelockt 180 gr. and managed 1.5 inch groups and got a buck two years ago.

Then I tried Federal 180 gr. and did my .303 ever like those. Believe it or not my best group was a little over .5 inch for three shots. The buck I got this past season didn’t know what hit him.
